Baen Webscriptions
I know there are a lot of people here that buy E-books from Baen, so I figured we should have a thread about it.
So which book are you looking forward to? I just downloaded the Jan 2012 books and am looking forward to Invasion: Book one of the Secret World Chronicle. Any other upcoming releases catching your eye? |

Himmler's War by Robert Conroy. its an alternate history where Hitler is killed and Himmler takes command.
"Only days after Normandy, Hitler is taken out of the equation and Heinrich Himmler, brutal head of the SS, assumes control of the Reich. On the Allied side, there is confusion. Should attempts be made to negotiate with the new government or should unconditional surrender still be the only option? With the specter of a German super-weapon moving closer to completion and the German generals finally allowed to fight the kind of war at which they are masters, the allies are pushed toward a course of accommodation or even defeat. Will the soldiers of the Grand Alliance find the courage and conviction to fight on in the face of such daunting odds? And can alliance leaders put into place a new plan in time to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat by the German war machine? A new and terrible battle for a free world is on." |

So far I'm resisting buying the eArc here, too. Not too hard to do, since I have >100 books in my "ToBeRead" collection on my Kindle. I'm also looking forward to the next Sarah Hoyt, though I don't know when it's due out. And there's a new book coming from Sharon Lee and Steve Miller in the Liaden Universe, but that will be a summer, I suspect.

December 2011 is the first web subscription in a long, long time that I haven't sprung for yet. Well, actually it's only the second since Baen started the web subscription that I haven't bought. Neither January nor February 2012 excite me either so I won't get those either. I've bought the PC Hodgell book as a stand alone and I'll buy the Heinlien in January as a stand alone. March has three new books that I want, so I bought that. Right now the big reads from Baen for me are Weber, Correia and getting ebook copies of the old classics from such authors Heinlien and Norton. I am looking forward to the Weber book, to see where he's going with the series.

I'm just not that interested in much of Baen's current publishing catalogue, so I basically stick to the author bundles and such.
That said, I do like how Baen has been e-printing some of its older non-MilSF backlist and including them as the backup books in the Webscriptions, along with the Heinlein/Norton etc. classics. Thus far, the March 2012 set looks more than decent, with a Heinlein, a Norton, and Mercedes Lackey & Ellen Guon's Bedlam's Bard, an omnibus in an urban fantasy setting I rather liked. But the first book in that was actually Webscripted separately about a year ago and can be gotten via the Secret Chronicle: Invasion cd-rom as well, and the second book doesn't quite live up to the first. Anyway, I'm hoping for more themed author discount bundles like the Glen Cook and Sarah Hoyt ones that were released recently, and of course I look forward to whenever the next Bujold is coming out, though I'll likely buy that in hardcover to match the rest of my paper Vorkosigans. |

Aieeee! New P.C. Hodgell?! Yes! *runs to Baen's site*
I've never done the monthly Webscriptions, but I've picked up a dozen or so books from Baen over the last two years, including Hodgell's stuff (I have the early books in signed hardcover, and they're ones I love to re-read.) I've never read the Honor Harrington's, but Weber's Path of the Fury is another very interesting, very different book that I greatly enjoy revisiting. |

Just picked up the new P.C. Hodgell book Honor's Paradox but it's been awhile since I read the other books so I'm going back to re-read the previous books.
