I see that the Baen free library I can get stuff. But, I know not what to read... would appreciate some recos... some of the SF stuff I like by...
Terry Brooks, Terry Goodkind, David Eddings, Michael McCollum (Gibraltar and Antares Series), Lackey/Dixon (Obsidian and Hearlds books.) Yes, this is mosly Fantasy, but I also like the science side... I read the Star Trek series stuff, Asimov's robot novels were great, Hitch Hikers (not really SF ![]() Thanks, BOb |

I really like David Weber's Honor Harrington series, it's worth a look if you like space opera. The first two are part of the free library.

Michael McCollum (Gibraltar and Antares Series) are very good. I have some paper copies that are signed by the author. You can also get them directly from him properly formatted for the Sony.
http://www.scifi-az.com/ (I'm surprised they are free) I'd also recommend Peter F. Hamilton - most anything. PCH |

If you like "hard" sci fi or military sci fi, check out Baen's selections from Jerry Pournelle and Keith Laumer. The latter's "Retief" stories are social/political satire set in a sci fi universe. The humor has a lot of the dry qualities of Hitchhikers Guide.
Glad you found Baen!!! Bob Last edited by BobVA; 11-05-2007 at 06:32 PM. |

I enjoyed Michael McCollum's Gibraltar and Antares Series. They are a bit lighter, but good.
Anything from Peter F. Hamilton is highly recommended. Fallen Dragon The Night's Dawn Trilogy The Commonwealth Saga (2 books) PCH |

Almost all Science Fiction is still in copyright, and hence mostly not free. Out of copyright (free forever) titles are at Project Gutenberg: Science Fiction (Bookshelf).
Some Science Fiction authors provide one or more free e-books on their own web sites. For example Steve Jordan, Charles Stross and Karl Schroeder |

From Baen i like David Drake and David Weber most.
BTW get the Baen CDs (http://baencd.thefifthimperium.com). The complete Honor Harrington series is on the CDs. It is hard to give more hints. More than 200 books are available from the CDs for free. |

I just finished Weber's Mutineers Mooon I got for free at Baen. Very fun book that only bogs a speck in the middle when some of the plot bullstuff gets a little thick and confusing with bizaar names of characters who are in and out of Cryosleep and so on... Excellent brain candy though.

I thought he was saying that he got them from the free Baen library - my bad.
I'm seeing a problem with posting - I'll post and it doesn't show up for an hour or more. In this case I thought I had forgotten to click submit and posted again. Several hours later the original post shows up........ )c8 Should I not expect to see my posts immediately? PCH |

Anything by Ringo,Flint, Webber,Bujold I could go on. OK I will, Hogan is great for hard core SF. Ringo, Webber,Drake and Flint are excellent for Combat weapons and Firearms savvy. Bujold combines mystery with romance and hard core action packed SF/ fantasy. Andre Norton is a long time writer of fantasy and sf and a lot of her stuff is kind of dated but still great to read. There is plenty of variety for anyone there. I also think there prices are excellent for a non DRM downloaded book. Happy reading.

Weber's fantasay series is very good and you would probably enjoy it based upon what you've posted you like.
There's several of Baen published books by Mercedes Lackey in the free library you'd probably want to pick up as well. David Drake writes a series of 'age of sail' based scifi novels, so if you ever read and liked Horatio Hornblower/Patrick O'Brian, then you might wish to look into his series. The first two or three starting with "With the Lightnings" is up on the free library. If you haven't already pick up Moon's fantasy series off of the Baen website, the Paksenarrion series is a favorite I return to two or three times a year. |

The delay you're seeing is the system waiting for one of the editors to approve the post, we approve them when we see them, but sometimes it takes a while for one of us to happen along. The upside of all this, is that the forum is largely free of spam, as the filters are really good at catching it. I'd also recommend Weber (unreservedly), Ringo (with reservations on some books), and toss in Lambshead. I just finished his Lucy's Blade, which is the only thing of his I've read, but I found it quite good. Also Dykstra's War by Jeff Kooistra (I probably misspelled both of those) was quite good. |

I'd recommend you download all of the Baen Free Library and just try the various authors. That's why they are free. I have found several authors I like there. Some not previously mentioned that can be purchased at Baen are K. D. Wentworth, C. J. Cherryh, Jack L. Chalker (although quite weird), Robert A. Heinlein, Elizabeth Moon, and Wen Spencer. Some of these have entries in the free library.
