Suggestions on the Best DVD Converter
Any suggestions on the best DVD Converter and the best optimized settings for conversions for the fire?

Don't know about the settings for Fire, but I have always used Handbrake.
I read somewhere that someone used a file encoded for Apple TV and it looked really good. There's a preset in Handbrake for that. |

I like handbrake also. The Fire should read the MP4's that it creates.
