Touch/Fire - Protection Plans

Is anyone buying the protection plans for a Fire or a Touch? I am curious because I purchased the 2-year plans for both my k2's but I never actually used them, I wonder if it is worth the money to do so. I am considering not buying one for the Touch but buying one for the Fire, but right now I only see the one offered by Amazon, I wonder if Square Trade will offer one for the Fire.

I don't think that buying a protection plan on a $99 device for $30 makes sense. Especially given 1 year warranty that comes for free. I've had to use it a couple of times due to Kindle failing on an airplane. But they seemed to have gotten better since.

$45 for a protection plan on $199 makes slightly more sense imho due to the fact that LCD screens are more prone to breaking when dropped.

On the other hand whoever is selling these is doing this to make money - not lose it. So mathematically such plans are not worth it in the long run.

My general policy is to never buy any insurance if I can afford to take the worst case loss.

I agree, I figured for the price I could just buy another device and since I didn't run into any problems with my k2 I would chance it.

Now this is the one that I am debating on, with these devices more things can go wrong.

i agree with BK, i dont get extended warranties untill things are over $350, altho there is one exception to that for me is i bought my wife a nice camera that was on sale for $300 i did get the extended warranty because my wife tends to drown her cameras or drops them or once accidently ran over it with the truck ...so the poor things NEED an extended warranty with accidental protection.

My credit card automatically doubles the manufacturer's warranty up to an additional year for free. That usually means I get a two year warranty on most purchases. As to accident protection, I never buy it.

If you go to Squaretrade and choose Fire it takes you back to Amazon to purchase it. It's 44.99 for a 2yr plan. I don't even think you can use coupons like in the past to get a good discount. I want one for mine but I am on the fence due to this.
