So How Long Should I Charge This Pretty Shiny New Toy?

Kindle Touch at my house RIGHT NOW!

I know there's been some discussion about charging the heck out of the batteries the first day in order to maximize battery life - is that still the best advice?

As far as I can tell the Calibre-You-Know-What works just fine with my new serial number.

I haven't put any books on yet but I fiddled with the touch screen reading the welcome guide and I think I like it.

Ah, that's something I hadn't considered, and am glad that it does.

As far as 'as far as I can tell' goes...well -- it'd be pretty obvious immediately, if it didn't.

me too.

I don't think the Calibre Collection Plug-in is working. If I make a Collection myself on the Kindle it shows up, but if I try to use the plug-in in Calibre to create them they don't even show up on the screens.

And yes, I restarted.

I didn't charge my Kindles. It was already over half full when I got it. I just used it till it say to charge it. You don't need to charge them right out of the box. I know it's a habit we all have due to prior generation batteries but they are pre charged and the first charge seems to last a long time.

Did you post there to see if Meme can address it, I did ask him about it and he stated it was working with the non-touch version.

Different firmware. The Non Touch uses the same as the K3 with some adjustments to UI but the KT uses a totally different type of firmware.

Aaah, then this is definitely information that should be passed on to Meme. Yikes, I do not want to rebuild my collections, thankfully they now have the feature to import collections from another device.

If you have collections on your other Kindle you can import them to the new Kindle. Make sure you move over all of your books first, then go to the build collections, and it should ask you if you want to use collections from device X. Say yes and the collections will appear and the books will be sorted into your collections.

okay - but hopefully the screensaver ads improve because my old Kindle had a really cute picture of my kid at the apple orchard that I'm really going to miss.

The screensaver changes each time you set it to sleep. No Worries if you don't like one just turn on and back to sleep mode for the next one.

I'm so "on the fence" when it comes to the whole SO deal thing. On the one hand, I'd like to take advantage of some of the offers. On the other hand, I fear that, with time, the offers won't be as good anymore. On the other hand, I think the ads would bother me a LOT! I hate it when people try to sell me things. On the other hand, I don't think I'd like giving up the real estate on the collections page. On the other hand, I like to save money. It's one of the reasons I haven't ordered a Touch yet.
