Calibre with manga

so Im trying to get Calibre to put manga on my nook but it freezes up when I have any file over 20 MB's and I also have the problem of making smaller books what I would like to do is select the folders by volume for them but I cant seem to find a way to get Calibre to select a folder with a whole bunch of zips as a single book.

As a side note the Nook first editions screen dimensions would be useful for me I cant seem to find the info anywhere just how big the nook is itself in inches.

OS: Windows XP
Calibre Version: ????? (actual number please, "current version" isn't an answer)
Manga format: CBZ
Nook version/type: ?????
Preferred output format: In calibre Go to Preferences - Behavior what do you have listed for Preferred output format?
# of Jobs: ????? When you think calibre is froze what is the number next to the word Jobs in the lower right corner of calibre?

When you try and send a CBZ file to your Nook calibre has to convert it to ePub first before transferring it to your device. Conversion from CBZ to ePub can take a while.

When you see the 1 next to jobs you know calibre is doing something, most likely converting the file. Calibre is busy not froze. Click on jobs, select the job and view the details.

You can avoid these delays by converting to ePub prior to sending the Manga files to your device.

It isn't locked up it is busy giving 100% effort to doing what you requested and given time it will complete the conversion. You can avoid this by converting it to ePub prior to sending it. If you find calibre unresponsive while converting the CBZ to ePub then Go to Preferences - Behavior - Job Priority and change it to Low and restart calibre.

Just means you told the pop-up not to pop-up any more. If you want to see this pop-up Go to Preferences - Behavior and click the button titled Reset all disabled confirmation dialogs.

Convert the the books to epub prior to trying to send them to your device. Don't run it all night unless you are actually telling it to do a conversion.

You've already told calibre you are using the Nook. Select the book in calibre, click the convert books icon and convert the book from CBZ to ePub.

The following links might help you understand calibre. Watch the videos.

The Video Tutorials sticky post.
The Methods and Examples for New calibre Users.
Calibre's Help page.

Good Luck.

I know Calibre can convert them but if Calibre itself is having a problem such as what I described then I need to use something else to convert it first and unfortunately what I have asks for the nooks screen dimensions and margins unfortunately I dont have that information nor do I know what to set the margin to so im not understanding why you went out of your way to say to convert it if you were just going to say use calibre again I would love nothing more than to use calibre but if it just freezes and things like that then I have no choice but alternatives but sadly only other set up I can find are PDf's and they take up way to much space

I said to convert it first before trying to send it to your device, because that is the next logical step. I also told you how to change the job priority if it was bogging down your machine. Once you have this set up you should be able to look at the job details and get more info if needed. But, if you don't want to try what I'm passing on to you that's fine.

There is no guarantee that what I'm saying will lead to success.

It most likely is not freezing it is converting the book.

Now that you are doing a conversion you have to examine the job details. If you are unable to examine the job details then change job priority to low. Changing job priority to low will free up your computer so you can go about your business while calibre converts the book. Getting the job details will allow you see where it is stuck. If the job details is at one point then an hour later it has moved to another point then it is still converting the book.

Let it convert the book until it errors or finishes.

@GoldThreader check the options in the Comic input (see attached.) Checking some of the boxes might disable some processing and speed things up.
