Calibre runs on a laptop or a desktop (Windows, MAC, Linux, or BSD) and it can manage the ebooks on one or more handheld devices (Android, Kindle, various EInk Readers).
The normal way this works is that you connect your android device via USB so that it show up as a disk drive (i.e. shows up as a letter drive under Windows). Calibre then writes the ebooks to the folder on the Android device that you choose. |

You can send to Disk (SD card is just a 'Disk' when in a Card Reader). It sounds like you are working backwards. Computers recognize 'USB Devices' when they are attached. Some Devices like my PEz or Phone require me to select something on the menu to make it 'Connect", otherwise it will just charge. |

Another is, some of the android readers have the ability to connect directly, and download your books. Yet another is a 3rd-party android app that's specifically made to do just what you're asking about. The single one of this type that I know of is not free. |
