I'm getting the following error - "Sorry...

While reading I'm getting the following error -

"Sorry - The application Reader has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again.
Force Close"

When I touch "Force Close" this then takes me back to the home page. Then when I go back into the same book, it either takes me to the first page, so I lose my place in the book or it goes back to a totally different page from where I left off and I have to skim forward to find my place. It will also change the font back to the original font. While reading yesterday on a 250 page book it happened 4 times !

Please help - this is really ticking me off !!!

I don't believe anyone can help you with that. That's the unit crashing. At least, in my experience. Are you touching the screen too many times & too fast? I found that to be the case that lead to the message you received.

Try to take it slow and touch the screen, pause & let the reader react.

As far as losing your place & reverting back to the original font, that's what will happen when you get that error. It's like the processor had a hiccup and forgot what it was doing so it went back to the original file configuration.

The fist thing i would try is shutting down the reader, and see if that helps.
The "force close" in android means that the application has crashed.
Maybe the book is faulty

I agree. It is probably something with the formatting of that particular book. Try reading a different book for awhile and see if you get the error.

Funny, I went to Best Buy yesterday to buy some external hard drives and ended up toying with a T1 - again. A salesperson approached me and strongly advised me 'not to buy that garbage'. I thought that was pretty unprofessional, but at least honest. Or well... kind of. According to him, they sold a dozen and got most of them back already, returned because of freezing/page turning.

I'd bet that had far more to do with people thinking they were buying a tablet and not an eReader.

You're first thought was right, the guys was completely unprofessional.

I don't know. The freezing problem looks like it's fairly common. I don't see how people returning it because of the crashing/freezing "had far more to do with people thinking they were buying a tablet and not an eReader".. it's clearly not a tablet. This isn't Kobo Vox we're talking about. This is an e-ink device. it's not even advertised as Android, afaik.

Yes the crashing problem is very real but we have no idea why people are returning the units. The salesperson never said why the units were returned. When I complained about the crashing to the guy I bought mine from at the Sony store he was telling me how many people had bought & returned previous models because they thought it was more than 'just' a reader. So, we just don't know.

That's not what I read from vxf's post. He seems to be saying that the Best Buy guy said customers returned, citing freezing/page turning as the reason.

Ooops! You're quite right. My apologies. Clearly I totally misread that. Sorry about that.

I didn't mean to derail the conversation. I just felt very queasy about that unsolicited advice. My first instinct was very hostile - I mean, this kid was giving some very opinionated advice - and steering people away from a brand that, despite some problems, has given me a lot of happy reading hours. Then I thought about it for a moment and I figured - well, better opinionated than the usual corporate mantra of faking surprise and always, always, claiming that 'you are the first one with that problem'...

And yes, he clearly claimed that the returns they were getting were about page-turns/touchscreen freezes.

After reading a few books I've noticed it only crashes with 'homemade' epubs or poorly formatted books. All v5 books read flawlessly.
I've learned to bookmark often.

Also remember the T1 won't read .doc, .rtf, or other various ebook formats that are not TXT or EPUB. My reader froze the first day I got it because I had a microsd card filled with these books. My option was to either remove those books (not through the reader since it couldn't even SEE those books, I whipped out my sd card reader and pulled it to my desktop), or reformat them to epub via Calibre. Fortunately I had read those books, was not likely to read them again so I deleted them off the card. (Mind you I still have them on my computer if I really needed them).
