Sony has released new Reader Library software

I doubt that it will help with the T1 problems. Frankly, I've switched to Calibre anyway.

I don't think they have. I got an email yesterday as well - but the link led to the Reader for PC software released a couple of months ago. Then again, it may be that the link was broken and that I just don't know of some new software - in which case, I apologize.

The Mac software has a "Check for updates" option. No updates are available...

Is Calibre really worth using instead? The last time I tried it it was so amazingly ugly I deleted it pretty quickly afterwards

Ugly, maybe? But extremely functional and infinitely flexible. I attached my current layout.

I like the 'Cover Flow' view, is that native or a plug-in?

That is native to the app.

The cover flow (top), tag browser (left), and Book details (right) can be opened and hidden individually on the fly via the three icons at the bottom right.

I do however have a completely different set of icons in use.

It's native. Look at the right lower corner (arrow-button).

Hm, that's way better looking than the Mac version. I've fiddled a bit with the look & feel prefs, but it is still quite large and chunky looking with lots of wasted space. Even the toolbar icons look different from yours - are you using the current version 0.8.25?

If you go to Sony Support and check, it claims a release date of 10/31/2011.

http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/mod...3#/downloadTab

I did not bother to download it to check if it was different, since I have stopped using it.

I didn't think too much of Calibre either until I used it for a while.

You must be talking about firmware in the wifi device. I'm talking about the Reader Library Software on my PC.

Hmmmmm..... my avatar says....
I stepped through the downloads there and it does say 10/31/2011 and is a different version than I have installed -- version-wise an older one....hmmm.... that one says 1.1.xxx and the one I currently have installed on my win7-64 machine says 3.3.xxxx and when I do "Check for Updates" it says No Updates Available.

Something is non-kosher....

Edit/Added: I just went in using Sony 505 and came to this page:
http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/mod...d#/downloadTab
if you click on "Reader/Ebook Library" it displays both the 3.3 and the 1.1 versions and lists the 3.3 as an "Upgrade" for the earlier devices.....weirder and weirder...

The Mac version and the PC version are essentially the same.

Dragging down the yellow bar at the top will reveal the cover flow. The three icons in the lower right open and close the main panes in the view shown. You can also add a menu bar on top like I did and customize each menu/toolbar as you see fit under Preferences - Toolbar, just click the dropdown window and choose the toolbar / menu you wish to modify.

I just have mine adjusted as I see fit. My menu bar at the top has 4 plugins, Find Duplicates, View Manager, (search) History, and Quick preferences. Plugins can be added via Perferences - Plugins - Get new plugins. Check the Index of plugins for what each plugin does. My right click context menus all look quite different then they did to start and have the items I use in the locations on the menu that I prefer them to be.

The screenshot was 0.8.24, I just upgraded now. Same exact look and feel as it was in 0.8.24.

When it is an attachment there is no need to scale it, the forum software should scale it on the fly to fit the size of the browser window it is opening in.

@kennyc: He is talking about the same. There is no Firmware update and the Library Software has a release date of 31 October, according to Sony, seen in the link he gave you.

See my corrections above, something is still not kosher, but hey, this sony reader library has always been plagued with issues. Not knowing that there is an update is par for the course.

Right, they're both written using Qt. But the spacing between widgets does seem a little different - much wider on the Mac, where non-Qt Mac apps are much narrower.
