Kobobooks.com - upcoming releases?
Is it just me or does anyone else wish the Kobo bookstore would advertise books that are about to be released?
I have purchased a grand total of 7 books from Amazon and 2 of those were prerelease orders that I assumed Kobo wouldn't be stocking. On the day of release the books were available at Kobo (and at a cheaper price with the use of a discount code) but I had already ordered the Amazon version. If I had known they were going to be available at Kobo I wouldn't have bothered with the Amazon order. The fact that they were cheaper made it even more frustrating! ![]() Almost every other bookstore I look at has a section for upcoming releases and Amazon send me emails with links so I can preorder. Why doesn't Kobo do this? |

Yes, this has happened to me as well. But on both occasions the books were significantly cheaper on amazon anyway (agency priced) so I didn't miss out on anything. And I like the way the books from amazon just arrive in your account without you needing to do anything.

Those of you who are buying books from Amazon, how are you reading them on the Kobo? Are you removing DRM first?

I find Kobobooks.com to be one of the most user-unfriendly sites out there- it simply cannot be compared to Amazon. The search facility on Amazon is a joy to use, which cannot be said for Kobo. I did a search for "Ian M Banks" instead of "Iain M Banks" (by mistake) on both sites. Amazon gave me a list of "Iain M Banks" (and pointed out my typo); Kobo produced a hit list of 12k+ books; presumably every thing in the catalogue beginning with "I"- including non-English books.
If these guys ever hope to compete with Amazon in the mass market they need to take some lessons in basic web site design. While I'm at - why do I keep on getting foreign books coming up in my search? I'm British, I live in Great Britain speak and read English- why is what is supposed to be a UK store full of foreign language books? Is it some of sort of diktat from the EUSSR or is it not really a UK site? |

However to read them on my Kobo I convert them to epubs using Calibre. To do that I first need to remove the DRM which we can't discuss on Mobileread. If you google "remove DRM" you can find the answers to any questions you may have. Apprentice Alf is very helpful. Last edited by HarleyB; 10-25-2011 at 04:43 AM. |

I had one recently where I got it though Amazon preorder for AU$10 (was worried it would pop up after release) whilst Kobo had it listed for AU$30. However on the day of release the Kobo price dropped to AU$10 also which bugged me as I'd had preferred the kepub. Be nice if they had similar preorder setup.

I agree - you need to know what to look forward to so you are not tempted. What about books you know are ready for loading (inform by both author and agent) and KOBO is just to slack to load and don't get me started on the publishing rights for different countries this peeves me no end. You can buy it with a US address but not with an AUS address

To make matters even worse...
The upcoming release I've been anticipating is out today and still isn't on the Kobobooks site while it was available on Amazon and BnN at midnight. |

Why don't the publishers just offer the books right on their websites? Cut out the middleman and make more money lol... so simple yet they are so dumb
