None the less, my PRS-650 and PRS-T1 are still waaaaay lighter than my iPad 2.

I blame the big reference tomes in PDF on my iPad 2 though, that must be it.

well, after an indepth, exhaustive reading of the link, I've come to the conclusion...

...that only ereaders that hear trees fall in the forest gain weight!

Perhaps this corresponds to the report that a body loses weight as life departs. All that knowledge goes away, thus a lighter body.

Time to remove some books from my devices then! No wonder they felt so heavy

This is something you can understand in theory, but as those numbers are so insanely small, it's hard to "understand" it with your heart...

It assumes that "empty" flash memory is all zero-bits, while "used" memory is a mixture of ones and zeros.

I believe that's not true with the FAT filesystem (which most/all readers use), empty memory can contain anything, it's just marked as empty, or rather not marked as used, in the file allocation table (FAT). So I'd say "in principle, maybe", it might gain weight, it might lose it, but it will remain FAT

My Sony's refused to comment.

While my wife's Kindle muttered something about trying to choose between the short story diet or the latest chocolate cookbook from the Kindle store. I think it may be confused...
