Coming from the PRS 600

Hi all,

I got my new reader yesterday. I truly love it!
The low weight is a godsend, as I think the weight of my PRS 600 is ultimately to blame for the surgery I needed for carpal tunnel syndrome in my left hand (my reading hand, as the buttons to change the page are on the left).
It is so light, it is wonderful.
Then the pearl e-ink display is fantastic and no more hacking through the screen, getting the touch screen to respond.

Of course all is not gold. As always you set the date and time and then the reader does everything to hide the current time from you. As I don't wear watches, I like having the time visible on my reader...
I truly miss the opportunity to sort my n=books by title and then jump to the correct page via the letter column, now it becomes tedious fast, to get to the book you want.

However, as always some remarkable people are here to help:
  • A big thank you to Kolenka for a simple solution to get use out of the "Recently Added" bar
  • A big thank you to Porkupine for providing (once again) root access, the important first step to get a more usable software
  • A big thank you to kartu, PRS+ is legend (in my book)

Before I forget, two highlights in usability:
  • The "Tap and Hold" works better to get to the dictionary than the old double tap
  • A personal favourite, tap on a link and the reader opens the history navigation, for once a feature that is truly useful (for those who read books with lots of footnotes!)

In the end, it was long overdue to buy a reader with pearl e-ink display and I am happy!

Thank you for patiently bearing this rant
Sven

You can search for the book you want instead of paging through the list.

Touch the 'search' icon on the books page (upper right hand corner, looks like a magnifying glass).

It would be nice to have a clock displayed while I'm reading, I agree. I don't wear a watch either. You can check the time by tapping the 'home' button, then the 'menu' button. It's not as handy as having it *right there*, but it's not too egregiously difficult to get to.

I'm happy with mine, too!

khalleron, thank you so much!
I tapped home, tapped menu, nothing happened...
Then I happened to look at the top left corner and there it appeared! I agree, this is it's not too egregiously difficult, I might strain a finger from all the exercise, though
I can very well live with that, if I wore a watch I'd have to lift my arm to read the time, compared to that "work", this is harmless

Thank you very much!
