Smile Hi from Philly!

Hey folks,

I just had to jump into the forums today, after lurking for a good while. It seems the polite thing to do. I'm excited by what seems to be the next wave of e-ink readers. In particular the 9.7" models with touch screen.

I'm a wannabe ebook reader, with hundreds of books (mostly pulp and scifi) in my collection, unread. I currently use a Palm TX, but I rarely read from it anymore. I find the constant strolling irritating, to be honest.

I've dreamed of a portable datapad/PADD (for the geeks out there) since middle school (I remember reading an Eastman/Laird comic with an image of Fugitoid using one!).

My dream device would enable me to write notes on PDFs, as I work with scientific articles all day long. Internet connectivity would be nice, but I have other tools for that. I'm just tired of printing out PDFs, frankly.

Anyway, that's me. Thanks for the forum.

Welcome good to see ya.

I to would welcome the day where the "promise" of the paperless office/society comes true. Although many are scared of it. Privacy and encryption becomes very important in that future.

While I am not "that" old... I envy the tech life my kids will live. It already blows away the 3 channel SD TV basically as the only tech I had as a kid. Although I did get a commodore64 when I was in high school.

I'm there with you. I remember when "10 Print "My brother smells" 20 GOTO 10" was great computing.

Thanks for the kind welcome.

Hiya Gester, I'm from Lower Bucks myself. I was lurking for awhile as well and joined recently. The amount of information and material available here is incredible.

A few friends of mine had c64s, I primarily started on Apple //e's and //c's. We used to go in and edit the hex code of games to allow unlimited life, among other things. Not to mention keying in the BASIC code for an entire game manually out of magazines. Why was it always the games that had the most lines tended to stink?

JeffElkins - Careful, you could start a holy war around Philly if you ask who's steaks he should bring.

At the risk of starting a war, my favorite cheesesteak comes from Delassandro's on Ridge.

This place has been a great resource for me...and a source of ongoing frustration. I'm not frustrated by the site, or anything, just by the nagging, teasing notion that there are going to be some fantastic -- and more affordable -- ebook devices in the near future, but just when that near future will be is what is bugging me.
