Rifts of Time by Alan David, a pseudonym for the prolific multi-genre author Donald S. Rowland (ISFDB, Science Fiction Encyclopedia), is his vintage standalone science fiction time travel adventure novel, starring a traumatized Space Force veteran who re-joins the Force as an experimental guinea pig to go where no man has gone before (well, at least not and return), taking his new crew into a strange dimension of sight and sound and mind which is probably not the Twilight Zone, free courtesy of publisher Endeavour Press' Venture imprint, who are e-printing it from its original 1976 edition from UK publisher Robert Hale under his other pseudonym Graham Garner.
Currently free @ Amazon (available to Canadians & in the UK and probably pretty much everywhere else they sell worldwide, since this is being done via the KDP Select exclusive-or-else program; there was some weirdness with the international price-dropping earlier this morning, so if you're outside the US/UK, please double-check to be sure that the price actually has dropped to $0.00 before you 1-click and check your receipt afterwards, too) And this has been the selected 3rd (non-repeat) free ebook thread of the day. Because not only is it always a welcome treat to receive sfnal freebies, vintage sfnal reprint freebies from obscure authors I've never even heard of are doubleplus good, since it gives Gentle Readers the chance to try and potentially discover a new potential forgotten favourite whose backlist is demonstrably becoming available again for them to affordably avail themselves of. ![]() Enjoy! Description Nothing could have prepared him for this… When Dane Marsden was discharged from Space Force, he thought he was finished for good. Sessions of neuro-adjustment have failed to rehabilitate him from his psychological trauma. But the treatments had unforeseen side-effects: Marsden is unwittingly loaded with unpleasant character traits, forced into social exile as an outcast. But soon, a special project presents itself, requiring a unique individual. Marsden is exactly the kind of man they need. Marsden finds himself reinstated in the Force, confronted by far greater challenges from Time than he had ever faced in Space. His mission: to explore unknown dimensions. But doing so is no simple matter. Four predecessors had attempted the Project and failed to return. Marsden is the fifth guinea-pig, and now he is beginning to realise that he is expendable. His crew are faltering. His will is waning. Venturing into the unknown is no easy task; the mission has become an overwhelming nightmare. Nothing Marsden has done before could have prepared him for this. Rifts of Time is a gripping science fiction story of how human consciousness operates when concepts of time become seriously warped. It was previously published under the pseudonym Graham Garner. Alan David is one of many pseudonyms used by the prolific author Donald S Rowland. His works have spanned three decades, ranging from science fiction to romance, westerns to military fiction. His various names have been attributed to hundreds of titles.
