Color Nook Color 7.1 Problem

Hi guys,

I've had my Nook for about two months now and loved it. When I got it I rooted and installed CM7, the other day I decided to update to 7.1 and that's when things went bad. As soon as my Nook boots it tells me that the status bar has crashed so it is difficult to navigate around the menus as I can't go back! If I try to turn the Nook off to enter Clockword Recovery it reboots, loads the main screen and the status bar crashes again. I have tried using Rom Manager to install another ROM but it doesn't respond to any of the options - I can download a new ROM but due to my status bar being missing I can't choose to install it.

Can anyone help me out? Right now she isn't at all usable. If you need any more info I am more than happy to supply it.

It sounds like you installed cm7 to the internal memory (EMMC). If you installed to an SD card - then you should be to format it and create a new SD card.

Assuming you installed cm7 to internal memory, you can hold the power button down for 10 seconds or so to force it to power off. You can always use a laptop/computer to download the cm7.1 from cyanogenmod.com and then copy it to your SD card. Make sure you find the gapps install .zip file to download to your SD card, too.

ROM Manager is a bit buggy. It is better to install directly from Clockwork Recovery. ROM Manager is really just a front-end for Clockwork Recovery.

Assuming you have the Clockwork Recovery installed, you can boot to that by holding the "N" home button down while you turn the Nook on, you should be booted into a menu system that looks like an old "DOS" computer screen. follow the prompts using the volume up/down and N button to select Recovery from EMMC and boot into that. From Clockwork Recovery, you can install from SD the 7.1 cm7 file. I would recommend you first select the option that erase the existing installation, and start from scratch. To do this you want to select the option "Factory Reset". Then select "install from sd" and follow the prompts to locate the cm7.1 file you should have on your SD Card.

If can't get into the Clockwork Recovery using the above steps, the other option is to create a SD card w/ Clockwork Recovery and then boot using that card; and install the cm7.1 and gapps that way. You should be able to find instructions to create a Clockwork recovery SD card from a tutorial here or on XDA or on one of the many blogs.

Either way, at this point I recommend you perform a factory reset from Clockwork Recovery and start 7.1 from scratch. CM7 / Gingerbread will normally re-download and install all of apps you already had. So it isn't too difficult to set the NC up from a brand new installation.
