Marking a book as "read"

Is there any way to mark a book as read once you have finished reading it? It seems so obvious I thought I would be possible however I can't work out how to do it. Is my only option to create a collection called "read" and tag it that way?

I did exactly as you stated. It works fine for me . I have only one collection, titled read. That is where I put all the books I have finished.

Another option is simply to delete it, of course.

I also delete books I've read, but I just started using Calibre to manage my library, and I plan to use a "Read" tag there.

I have a collection titled "Done". On the other end, I have a collection called "Reading" containing the books I'm currently reading (I generally read multiple books at the same time).

Hi
Might I humbly suggest you look at the following post ? :

https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...31#post1353631

Might help you, if you're as "lazy" as me
Calibre can update the read status for you, almost automatically.
Let me know if you want the code changed and I'll give a try.

Have a nice weekend.

I'm curious why you'd want to keep books you've read on your Kindle?

How to mark "read" books.

Go to this site and sign in:

https://kindle.amazon.com/your_reading

You can mark any of your Kindle WiFi ebooks as "read" there and it will flow through to all Amazons records.

The effect is to then be able to read and memorize flash cards of all your highlights and notes made for that ebook.

One of the reasons: as a reference. People read books not only for pleasure.

That's very true, and I have several reference books on my Kindle. But would you want to mark a reference book as "read"?

I like to reread books and never know when the mood is going to hit me so I like keeping my books on my Kindle.

I have my collections divided into Read and To Be Read based on genre with one called Reading.

Also, each book has a series of dots under its title on the main page. You can tell if you have read a book based on how many of those dots are black. If the entire thing is black then you finished the book.

I move my books to the proper collection and reset the book to the TOC when I finish reading. I figure I have a device that can hold a ton of books, I may as well store my books on it.

With 3gb of space, I see no good reason to delete them.

Personally, as soon as I load a book, I put it into at least two collections: one based on the type/genre (General Fiction, Fantasy / SciFi, Reference) and one called "Unread."

When I start reading, I take it out of "Unread" and move it into "Currently Reading"

When I'm done, I take it out of "Currently Reading", and it just sits in whatever other collection(s) I put it in at first.

All books that I haven't read or are currently reading are in my "New and Unread Books" collection. Once I'm done reading a book, it gets moved to a specific genre collection, and if I really enjoyed the book, it also gets moved to my "Authors to Read More" collection. I read so many books that it is very difficult for me to always remember which authors I really liked. That collection helps a LOT.

You can also see if a book has been read by looking at the dots underneath the title on the Home screen. If they are all dark, it shows your last page viewed was at the end of the book. So I just leave my books at the end.

Well, it depends what sort of "reference" book. A dictionary - not. I am not one of the rare types who read dictionaries cover to cover .
But I am currently reading Bill Bryson's "Short History of Nearly Everything", which is both pleasure to read and a kind of reference, so when I finish it I am probably going to put it into a "read" category, but also keep it on my Kindle.
