Question The "name@free.kindle.com" address

I tried to search, but didn't find any relevant thread.

I was browsing about on my friends Kindle account in order to help him and to set the "name@kindle.com" fee to $0,00. What I discovered was that there was no "fee limit" thingy on the personal document settings. Also, there were no more information that it would cost anything to send to the "name@kindle.com" address, nor any info that you could send for free to the "name@free.kindle.com".

I then logged in to my own account where I had set the fee limit to $0,01 to check, and I discovered the same. The "fee thingy" had disappeared and there were no other information than that you should send the personal documents to "name@kindle.com".

There was this 5GB personal document archive though, and it was enabled by default.

Anyone else observing the same?

I am registered in Germany Amazon.de and I still see that feature. Now you can even deactivate when before you had to change the amount to 0.00 EURO.

Yes, and we have the cloud feature for personal documents here as well.

It's still in my account as well. Does your or your friend's Kindle have 3G? This is what it says in my account:

I'm guessing you and your friend both have Wifi-only K3's. If that's the case, you will never be charged for delivery of personal documents. You're only charged if documents are delivered via 3G. Wifi delivery is always free.

My account page still has a section for what they now refer to as "Whispernet Delivery Options", where you can enable/disable 3G document delivery and set the maximum charge limit, but I have a 3G Kindle.

I'm betting they simply removed that section from the settings page of those customers who own Wifi-only models, since it's really not applicable anyway.

Amazon has changed the way Kindle Email addresses work. There is no more a free.kindle address, it's now just @ Kindle .com. Every email sent to that address goes to all kindles you have set up to receive personal documents. Also any Kindle bought after Sept 28 no longer gets an unique address, it shares your main Kindle's address. I'm not sure how this effects 3G download but I still have the document charge on my MYK page and it's set to $0

This is in my personal document setting for wireless submittal via 3G:
Setup maximum Amount. Since mine is 0 EURO is stated not activated. In the same line to the right "Aktion" I can select Activate.

Yes, forgot to mention. We both have "Kindle Keyboard Wi-Fi" as they are called now (ordered as K3 Wi-Fi though).
My friend's Kindle was ordered around 25th Sept, and received in Latvia the 29th. Mine was delivered about a year ago.

Mine has country location Latvia and my friend's (given by us as a gift) is not "attached" to any country yet as he lives in a "non-Kindle-delivery" country.

I think it only applies to K3s & K4s that have the new cloud.
I should of been more clear. I keep forgetting about the older kindles.

I have a K3 with 3G and can no longer use the free address.

Hauling this thread back into the daylight again.

It now seems that the "@free.kindle.com" does not function anymore. However, when sending to the "@kindle.com" I don't get any confirmation that my documents are received/sent to my Kindle.
Does anyone else get the confirmation mail still?

Documents are installing themselves to the Kindle allright and goes into the "Private Documents" archive.

I (still) have the Kindle Keyboard/Kindle 3 Wi-Fi only.

Mine still does. Since my limit is set at $0, @free.kindle.com and @kindle.com are the same for me. If they were to really eliminate @free.kindle.com, my email feeds from from places like klip.me, Instapaper, Readability, Kindlefeeder, and Calibre would mostly stop working. I have a Kindle Keyboard 3G. If in WiFi range, so there is no substantial delay in receipt, I don't seem to always get the annoying-to-me notifications. If out of range, yes, I always get the notifications. Also for library books. Also for Calibre news feeds, even though in WiFi range. Could it have to do with use of @kindle.com vs. @free.kindle.com?

I would now normally make some snide remark about threatened elimination of @free.kindle.com being yet another reason to never get another Kindle. However, I've realized this weekend that competitors apparently do not have kindle.com type of addresses, making WiFi much less useful. Whether @free.kindle.com or free-by-setting @kindle.com or free-because-WiFi-only @kindle.com, the incoming email address is a super feature.

I'm still able to send personal documents to my @free.Kindle.com address (K3 3G), and I'm also still getting all the confirmation emails. (Which I hate!)

At this point, I'm totally confused about what I can send to my DX for free though. I also seem to have managed a separate email address for my DX, which I bought used and re-registered after Sept. 28th. (I phoned Customer Service and they "set me up.")
