Question Kindle keyboard for larger fingers

Hi there,

I just bought a Kindle wifi with the keyboard and I was wondering if anyone that has large-ish fingers or longer nails had any issues typing on it? I've been waffling between the kindle and getting another Sony and in the end Kindle won but with a 30-day return policy I want to make sure I have totally ease using all the features

Also i have quite a bit of kindle formated books and i have calibre..do i use the kindle desktop program to transfer books to my kindle or can I use Calibre?

TIA
Fiona

Are they sold at any local stores in Canada? You might want to go play around with a display model to see how it feels in your hands. My hubby has pretty big hands and he's had no problems with it at all. Although, he'd be the first one to admit that he never really uses the keyboard except to order/download a book directly from/to his Kindle.

I have rather small fingers and still for a screen shot you have to press [shift] + [alt] + G. Pressing shift and alt at the same time is a challenge! I use either index and middle finger of the left hand for shift + alt and G with the right hand index finger or thumb for shift and alt. But sometime it is just a page refresh instead of a screen shot!

And of course (mentioned in this and other threads) the back key is too close to the 5-way controller.

Some people have big hands but fine fingers.

The problem is for big hands with stubby fingers, or wide fingers. The keys are close together for me and I might end up pressing the key next to the one I want if I am in a hurry.

And it is worse for my thumbs, because the thumbs are going across (parallel to) the row of keys as opposed to using the tip of your index finger which allows you to position it directly on top of the key.

Well anyway, that is my take on it.

That's true. My husband does fall into the "big hands but slender fingers" category.

It might be that the K4 is best for those w/ both broad hands & fingers since they can use the directional keys for the onscreen keyboard. I'm guessing the K-Touch may be of little help since you still have to work within the confines of small spaces when choosing items. Although, turning would be easy since you have the options of "tap" and "swipe".

i have larger hands with wider fingers (thanks dad) so far its ok but I'm also not typing on it I would with my computer keyboard either so for sure not 55wpm.

So far I think I'm keeping it instead of returning and ordering a K4..for some reason they just don't impress me as much as the K3's or even the Sony 650's.

You'll probably struggle with long fingernails, but you could use the blunt end of a pencil instead. You'll never be able to touch-type on it unless you fall through a radioactive cloud.

Hubby went to Staples (or Best Buy) this past weekend and played around with the K4; he hated the way it felt in his hands. He said it was too small, and that he couldn't position it in a way that would allow him to comfortably "turn the pages" while holding it in one hand. He fears that the KT might be the same, but is a little hopeful as the bezel is technically a little bigger, which might make a difference.

My mom has the long finger-nails bit going, and she doesn't have much of a problem with the keyboard on my Kindle. She is yet to get a touch-screen phone, though. She just can't seem to work the screen very well.

He's right on the one hand turning on the K4. There are times I can do this but it takes precision and concentration. The K4 then slides out of my palm when I reposition it and I near drop it. I now hold it at the bottom where 4 buttons are and use my other hand to turn pages.
