How to insert pagebreaks using MS Office on HTMLZ?
I just love th HTMLZ facility. Can get all my downloads exactly as I want them.
One problem though: I use either chapter detection through the word "Chapter" or I create H1's and H2's in the HTMLZ file and convert them to MOBI using the "Pagebreak before" option of Calibre. I use MS Word (2010) to edit the HTMLZ file, because I really enjoy the power of the "Search and Replace" feature. I would like to stay away from editing the raw HTML. But how do I use Word to insert a pagebreak where there is no chapter? FE Before chapter 1 there is the publishers information, followed by the book title and dedication and I want a pagebreak before and after the title and dedication TIA |

I don't use Word to edit HTML for Calibre, but have you tried just inserting a MS Word Pagebreak wherever you want it? It should be in the 'insert' menu.

Of course, both as a page break and a section break, but it has absolutely no effect when converting back from HTMLZ to MOBI

All my experience is with epub rather than mobi, but the following works for me.
In MSWord, you could just create an <h2> heading 'Dedication' for the dedication section. This would give you the pagebreak you want. If you don't want the word 'Dedication' to appear in the bodytext, just manually change the html from <h2>Dedication</h2> to <h2 title="Dedication"></h2> This would give you a 'Dedication' TOC item but the text should not be visible in the body of the mobi.

Thanks jackie_w,
That pointed to the solution. Where ever I now want a page break I insert a paragraph with a few spaces and give it it a Header 2, whicle giving the chapters a Header 1. I then create the ToC on the H1 and the "pagebreaks before" on H1 and H2. Works like a charm :-) |
