B&N declares war on Amazon....
Barnes & Noble to pull DC graphic novels in digital spat October 7, 2011 | 11:53 am Watchmen DC Comics' efforts to expand digital distribution of its graphic novels has gotten it caught in a battle between two book-selling giants. Barnes & Noble said Friday it will not stock physical copies of 100 of DC's graphic novels that the Warner Bros.-owned unit is making available exclusively on competitor Amazon.com's Kindle platform, including the upcoming Kindle Fire tablet. DC agreed to give Amazon exclusive digital distribution rights for the books, which include "Watchmen" and graphic novels featuring Batman and Superman, for four months starting with the launch of the Kindle Fire on Nov. 15. http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/ente...ital-spat.html |

So will they restock in 4 months after the exclusive deal is up? Wonder if they'll have any DC comic book customers then?
Are they going to stop selling Harry Potter when Pottermore goes up, too? |

I think B&N is declaring war on DC, not Amazon. Pulling DC from B&N won't hurt Amazon; if anything, it will help them. But it will hurt DC, potentially.
And I think attacking DC is the appropriate response. There will be no Amazon exclusives if publishers/authors don't believe they'll make more money that way. To the extent that this cuts into their profits, this might work. (Although it obviously will be less effective with e-book only authors). |

Perhaps B&N is just respecting DC's wishes? If they only want to sell through Amazon,
so be it. Luck; Ken |
