Kindle 3 button issue

The Home button on my kindle 3 of late requires a really 'hard-press' to work, lost sensitivity that is, all other buttons are fine. I have tried cleaning the keyboard with a moist cloth but hasnt really worked.

Any ideas?

If it is still under warranty, replace it! Even if it is a couple of months out of warranty. I had a page turn button on my Kindle 2 get mushy (no "click" feel), so I got a replacement. Once those micro-switches start to go, there is no turning back. I don't believe that any cleaning would help, but if you Google "Kindle 3 battery" you will find videos showing how to open your Kindle. Only open it if Amazon won't give you a replacement.

This video shows disassembly of a Kindle 3. You can see the little bubbles that represent the micro switches under the keyboard. No way to fix these..

thanks for the reply.

i'm located in india, so i really doubt if amazon would consider my replacement plea. and to be frank, the cost of shipping the kindle back to amazon would probably be higher than the price tag of the newer kindles

i guess i'll live with this and upgrade when the kindle (or the button :P) stops working altogether.

It doesn't hurt to ask. I have heard of Amazon being pretty generous with replacements. I think someone said they had free international shipping on their replacement.

They are usually very generous with their replacements. They want people to have their Kindles, so they can buy books at Amazon.

I live in the Netherlands and just had my K3 replaced because the screen was defective. They send it to you at NO costs to you (they will charge your credit card for the new Kindle, shipping and import and refund the same amount, in my case that cost me only about 3 euro's because of the difference in exchange rate and the charge & refund happened on the same day) AND they will refund the return shipping as well so it costs you next to nothing. I called them last Wednesday night, got the replacement yesterday and sent the defective Kindle back today.

So if you're worried about shipping or anything like that, don't, just call them and see what they say. If they don't replace it, too bad, but I wouldn't be surprised if they will and it won't cost you (except the phone call and difference in exchange rates)
