How? Update ONLY metadata, no conversion

I'd like to know how I can update only the metadata and cover page (defined by using edit metadata) in epub books, while performing no other conversion. I can see no way to disable fiddling with margins, structure detection, etc.

I'd also like to avoid ORIGINAL_EPUB files.

If the EPUB is properly created then doing an operation that takes the file out of calibre wilo write the metadata at that time. E.G. Save to disk, send to device. The metadata in an EPUB should always be able to be updated. The cover is hit or miss depending on if it is properly defined. If it is not you will either need to convert or use Sigil to correct it.

With one selected book, save to disk produced exactly nothing in the target directory - even if Calibre claimed to be producing something

Send to device is not very impressive, as I'm using a Sony Tablet S, which Calibre evidently does not support yet. Very nice tablet by the way.

Doesn't matter anymore. I ended up bulk converting the whole library, after having made a backup.

Could not make send to device work with the Sony Tablet S, so I saved the lot to a single directory (couldn't use the (USB)device as target) and used common file transfer to send the books to my tablet.

Now I just need to find out which books didn't convert - about 93 out of 1339. Anyway, I should have plenty of reading for a while

BTW: Send to device may be hard to get to work with android devices, as the target folder depends on which ebook reader we use. The various reader applications I've tested - "Aldiko", "Cool Reader", "FBReader" and the built-in "Reader" - all use different folders to store their libraries. However, Aldiko readily imports from the Download folder - don't know about how the others do.
