I'm really hoping that you can opt out of this like you can opt out of Reading life being connected to FB. The pulse seems like it would be really annoying.

Of course you can opt out ... in fact, you would have to opt in. It's integrated with Facebook for a start, so, no Facebook, no Pulse.
