Google Talk Authentication Failure
I have the Google Talk Authentication Failure problem that is linked to failure to download apps from the Android Market.
This Authentication Failure also can occur on cell phones and is sometimes linked to chat not being enabled. On my Linux computer, I have gmail with talk and chat working. I don't know how one tests if chat is disabled on the PE and if so how to enable it. Since it isn't linked to a cell phone account (in my case), I can't call a telephone service provider and ask them to enable it for my PE. Thanks in advance for any comments. P.S. This is ensnared in the failure to obtain Android Market downloads as most readers probably know, and I have looked at threads related to gapps and the Android Market but haven't seen this question spelled out and answered. If I have missed the relevant answers in other threads, please send me a link. Steve |

Hi Steve,
There really isn't a 100% answer. I tried numerous things, including emusan's market method and that did not work until I modified the build.prop on my device. Keep in mind that if you get it wrong you CAN BRICK YOUR DEVICE so you have to be careful and have some experience (I had previously edited my phone build.prop so I felt confident in doing it again on this device). Here is a link to emusan's method. I followed it exactly and the market would run but would not download any apps. In order to bypass the google talk registration problem I had to modify the build.prop file. After editing the build.prop you take the following steps: Code:
Settings -> Manage Applications -> All -> Market Clear Cache then Force Stop -- DO NOT clear data Settings -> Manage Applications -> All -> Google Services Framework Clear data then Force Stop I now have a fully functional market connected android tablet. The only issue is that the market reports its not compatible with many apps. If I need those I try to sideload them if possible. Best of luck and I will answer any questions if possible ![]() Last edited by jamina1; 09-26-2011 at 11:09 AM. Reason: added reboot |

Same issue here, did your fix and now it won't even open the market. Says an error has occurred.

This will revert to the oldest version on your phone. Then Use Titanium Backup to freeze the market updater. That should help. Also make sure you've rebooted after completing the build.prop modifications and everything in emusan's method. |
