Insert text while converting PDF to EPUB
While converting PDF to EPUB using Calibre, is there a way to insert text into the EPUB file?
It would be the same text every time, for all files. The text could be inserted at the beginning of the document, or maybe better yet, periodically throughout the document. It seems like this might be done with the metadata and/or the cover page or maybe CSS? Any suggestions on the best way to do this are appreciated. thanks! |

You could try to use the search & replace feature for that, although you'd have to figure out some search pattern that occurs regularly... Personally, I think Sigil would be your best bet.

Or just put what you want in the comments field and insert a metadata jacket in the conversion options.

You can do it without Sigil. Epub is an archival format, like zip. Backup your epub so that you would have a copy in case something goes wrong. Then open it with a program you would normally use to open zip files, and unzip it (the epub file), like you would normally unzip a zip file. (If your program doesn't recognize the epub as zip, change its extension to zip. Unzip. And make sure you have a backup before that.) There will be a bunch of files, look at the html files and find where you want your inserted text to be. Insert it in the html, then zip the whole thing back and add this new zip wile to Calibre as one of your book's formats (I am assuming you have pdf and epub, add the zip, too). Now convert *the zip* to epub. Look at the resulting epub with Calibre's e-reader. You should see your change.
Again, make sure you back up your epub before you do anything with it. |

Wow, thanks you for all the help. This forum rocks!
Actually inserting a background image with the Extra CSS has worked perfectly. That's exactly what we had in our PDFs that was not converting. Maybe I should have explained better. We will have hundreds of PDFs to convert and this is an easy solution. May all your karma grow. |
