not exactly ereaders but screen technology
Apologies if this was already discussed. Here's my little find
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencete...ring-2012.html ah, bendable ereader you could sit on without crushing it ![]() back when I was a child we had a black and white tv... when I'm an old old grandma I will order my ereader/smartphone to bring me breakfast to bed with a rose in it's teeth, er, keyboard or whatever it will have |

Hmmm...
Bendable screens have been a concept that's been around for a while... but the idea that Samsung could actually release one next year?? I don't know if that's true, but if it is... that's pretty damn cool. |

Do we really need bendable screens? Personally, I would not give up any readability for this "feature".

I certainly would if it means I no longer have to baby my readers. One of the advantages of paper books over ebooks is the robustness of the former. It would be nice if this shortcoming could be addressed.

So, what's going to keep it standing up like they've got it? Does it have an actual pivot point, or can it be bent at different locations?
If it's really flexible, I'd think you'd have problems controlling the display. Too flexible and you'll have problems getting it to stand up or hold a shape while using it. Like trying to read off a single piece of paper, okay if you've got it on a clipboard or on a table, harder to deal with if you're lying in bed. Not flexible enough and I'd be afraid to break it by bending it too far. Or punching the wrong numbers because it has no internal 'backbone' and slides around. Especially for reading, I think I'd like my ereaders all to have some solid substance to them. But admit it would be nice not to have to worry about breaking the screen in the machines they're currently in. |
