Gave up, and got a Nook Simple Touch
Although I really wanted to like the KT, and was a huge fan of the form factor and light weight, I just couldn't deal with it anymore. The ios sync issues were a pain, and the time it took to get to a footnote in the 1100 page book I'm reading, and to get back to main text, was glacial. That, combined with the lack of a search feature, did it for me. Getting lost in an 1100 page book with no search ability or "go to" feature is no joke.
The STR is MUCH more responsive; switching is nearly instantaneous. I do miss being able to add fonts. The BN pushing of suggested reads is obnoxious, but the bookstores themselves are about the same. I hope kobo can get it together with its software. I'm really pulling for them, but life is short to mess around with an ereader this much. "Infinite Jest" isn't going to read itself! ![]() I'm selling my KT if anyone is interested. |

You could have just gone to the end of the book using the drag bar where your footnote is and then just press the back button.

Terminator, that wouldn't help. Just touching the hyperlink to go to the endnote in a book this huge took like 15-20 seconds. The STR is much faster. Plus, this book has 388 (!) endnotes. It was just a nightmare. And, if the endnote link was in the top line of a page, the KT would not register it. It would just turn the page. Frustrating!

In fairness, this was a Kobo book. But -- 15 seconds watching the wheel go round is a lifetime when you're trying to get to and from a footnote!!

Maybe the firmware on the Nook Simple Touch makes it faster. The Kobo and the Nook both have 800MHZ processors.

Relatively poor handling of footnotes/endnotes is currently a limitation of the KT. I've certainly noticed it on the few books I've read that had extensive footnotes. It's not a big deal to me, but it would be a good reason to try something else if you make a lot of use of footnotes.

Using the Nook now for several days, I can say that overall, it is much much snappier. The only downside is no ability to install fonts. Other than that, it's just a better device, albeit not as good-lookinglyu compact. I'm bummed, because I really wanted to like it. It's just not ready for prime time yet.
