how can I retrieve the default sleep mode pictures
I rashly reformatted by PRS-650 while trying to debug a particular problem ( which turned out NOT to be a hardware issue).
I'd backed up my books, but not the default screen savers. ( palm tree, eifel tower...) Is there any place I can download them from to put them back onto the reader. |

I do not know. However maybe someone here can copy from his/her own Reader and email them to you..? I can do it when I get off work in a few hours if you would like.

if they can be attached here, that will help anyone else with the same issue, thanks.
I lost the sample doodles also but they are not important, unless I was planning to sell the unit & wanted to make it like new again. I think the dictionaries areall intact, as they live within the firmware. |

Guys,
please consider that this forum has more then one page and use search. You will find: Original hibernate pictures Post #3 there holds a link to the pictures Last edited by Mark Nord; 09-14-2011 at 10:56 AM. Reason: Corrected to Post#3 |

Another way to retrieve pictures, sample books and audio files:
Making a HARD RESET of the reader: https://wiki.mobileread.com/wiki/Sony...nd_Reset_Guide WARNING: A HARD RESET WILL ERASE ALL CONTENT ON THE READER. 1. Power off the Reader Digital Book. NOTE: If the Reader Digital Book is active, you can slide and hold the power button until the Device Shutdown screen appears and then tap Yes to power it off. 2. On the bottom edge of the Reader Digital Book, using a thin object such as a paper clip, press the RESET button. 3. Turn on the Reader Digital Book. 4. While the screen displays Opening book... , simultaneously press and hold down the Previous Page Turn button and the Size button until the Reset All screen is displayed. 5. In the Reset All screen, press the OPTIONS button to delete all content, restore all factory settings, and clear the DRM authorization state. As you can read above, all content will be erased, but some content will be restored (sample pictures, sample books, sample audio). A. |

you reckon that restores sample pictures. I am pretty sure I already did reset to factory defaults with no joy... I read the bit above the says "...to delete all content" as meaning exactly that. The pictures could only now be restored if also held in firmware, after drive has been formatted.
PS I followed the thread links given above ( I'd not have found that via search as I was calling them screen savers not wallpaper ) but the colour pics on external imageshack server are huge, surely the ones on the sony would only be 800 x600 ? |

cybmole,
reset to factory default is not equal to doing a hard-reset, as pointed out in detail by Analogus And the pre-set-content IS held in firmware. To be precise in /dev/mtdblock14 See attached picture, and they are huge Last edited by Mark Nord; 09-14-2011 at 02:57 PM. Reason: corrected mtdblock to #14 |

ok thanks - so I should be able to simply copy from that firmware location to the default picture folder, via windows explorer, & skip the reset thing ?. ...
Hmmm- maybe not _ I cannot locate /dev or /$dev even with view hidden system files enabled |

cybmole,
you can extract this internal dev/blocks with "ebook_msc.exe". This file is e.g. included in the boroda/porkupan russification pack over at the-ebook.org Block #14 is a VAT image, so you will need a disk-image-viewer (like winimage.exe) Or, if your books are still backuped, do a hard-reset,or just copy the files from imageshack (it's up to you to resize and greyscale them) |
