Kindle for PC 1.7.1

I just saw this when I opened kindle for pc,

support for reading pdf's I just tried out the pdf reading, it works well. oh and yes the "tools" still work...

Yes, there's been various discussion of this over the last few days. There's a thread on the "Print Replica" format in the "News" forum. It's essentially PDF within a Mobi DRM wrapper.

I knew about the digital relica format, but I didn't know kindle for pc would read pdf's directly ( not in the amazon wrapper) works well for pdf's, I like it better then foxit.

you can bookmark, highlight etc. the pdf table of contents works etc..

Does Kindle 4PC auto update? I've never seen it auto update.

It can if you set it to. But it's still needs user interaction.

by default it auto updates, i have that disabled so it just gave me the pop up message.

I tried to auto update it goes in a endless loop and never finishes. I finally just grabbed it from the site and that worked.

I have it set but nothing shows up.

Even with the auto-update option checked, it always seems to ask me if I want to update first.

That's what It did me. and kept asking and asking and asking

It downloaded it then ask me again if I want to update then download it again and ask me again. It must of did this 20 times before I canceled it.

I think I remember it doing this to me one time a while back. I just canceled it, downloaded the new version, and installed it manually over the existing install—all in a virtual sandbox of course.

Has anyone successfully installed 1.7.1 who had problems with 1.6.1? I couldn't install 1.6.1 - it froze at the "Initializing" screen.

How do K4PC updates work these days? Do I have to re-download all the books I want to have on the PC (offline) again? With an early version this happended to me (precisely: I had to re-register K4PC after update and that made all the books I had already downloaded onto the PC unreadable). Since I did not find a way to download all books from the archive at once and did not feel like clicking through all of them one-by-one, I just gave up on K4PC.

Has this changed?
