technical problem - xfer calibre to kindle

I have some ebooks that I am transferring from the calibre library on my windows pc to my kindle. I used the "send to device - send o main memory" tools. one recurring issue is that when I see the book on kindle, it does not point to the first page but to somewhere in the middle. when I view it in calibre it goes to the first page. the whole book was transferred properly to kindle and I can get to the first page ok by going bak - but why does it not point to it initially?

pdani - My Kindle always seems to open books to the first page of content, and skips past the cover and any introductory notes and publishing information. It makes no difference if I've transferred it from Calibre or downloaded it directly from Amazon. You can page back to the first page or use the go to function, but I'd much prefer it open to the cover rather than several pages in. I'm not sure why the Kindle works this way and I don't believe you can change it, but fortunately it's only a minor annoyance.

Enjoy!

tehnical - author sort

Hi SteveK and thanks for your answer,
since you are such a zealot compared to junior me here (something tells me that in real life I could probably be your grandfather...), you must know the answer to this too: when I set up my library in calibre, I make sure that the metadata is ok so for example the sorting by author works fine. but when I download it to kindle, it messes the sort up - when I select sort by author, it doesn't quite work! this is really a kindle issue, I think, so I should really go and join a kindle forum, but it is late and I am too lazy so I thought I will ask you.
thanks in advance,
Dani

the only thing i experience on my kindle is that the kindle doesn't put the books in the same order as calibre does within a specific author. whereas my calibre library sorts by author, then title and then series. even though there must be one, i've never noticed any rhyme or reason to how the kindle does it

If you are sorting by author or by author within a collection the kindle sorts by publication date. I change the pub date so for a series the first book is say Jan 1 2000, the next is Feb 1 2000, ect. For multiple series by an author I choose different pub years, and for different genres like contemporary and historical I choose different decades to keep the types of books grouped together.

I don't have any "series" etc. - just a bunch of books, and the kindle does not seem to respect any sort order - the books come sometime in last name sequence, in some others it is the first name, and in others it makes no sense at all - they are completely in the wrong place by any sequence!

Still, how do I go about changing publication dates on the kindle? do I need to do it in calibre and re-download to the kindle? Would some genius out there create a synchronization feature in - that would be great - effectively letting me edit the kindle from my PC!

just finished doing the pub date thing to my entire library where there were series displayed on the kindle out-of-order. i did it in the column on the main display screen. click the field, then click it a second time (do not double-click) and then change the date. then i highlighted a group of changed books and deleted them from my device, then i transferred the newly altered ones. it required some patience from me.
