Disassembling / Cleaning PRS-600 touchscreen?
Is it me the only one who expects a 300$ dedicated piece of technology to last for more than one year? My PRS-600 isn't still 2 yrs old and it's got a nasty blotch of wossname under the touchscreen! Again!
Since it's now out of guarantee, the authorized repair will cost me nearly as much as a newer device. So I would try to mend it myself, if I knew it's possible and (even better), if someone has successfully done it. Have any of you had any experience removing dust from under the touchscreen of the PRS-600? According to the directions of the Service Manual, in order to reach the screen I would have to disassembly the entire unit, which seems overkill to me (on top of risky, with all those connections threatening to go awry). Is it really so tricky to reach the screen? Is there any easier way to get rid of the dust? I would appreciate any useful tip here! Thanks in advance. Last edited by Uke; 09-27-2011 at 03:41 PM. |

Well, if the service manual says yuo have to disassemble, I would assume you have to disassemble.
Which is what I would expect as I see no way the screen would come out the front of the case. And my PRS-600 (now my wife's) is over 2 years old and had no problems. How did you get dust under there? |

Well, I swear that I didn't try it very hard, it just happened! Anyway, it already happened before, which I blame on a defective sealing of the gap between e-ink and touch screens.
The speck that currently bothers me is rather an orange-tinted lint. Perhaps it's a flake of dried glue (though there is at least one known case of a little bug getting into the gap and being crunched there). So, whatever... |
