References to images in the guide: are they legal?

Hello

As I understand it the OPF 2.0.1 specification states that an 'href' attribute in the guide can only target a content document, yet an example from lynda.com regarding the conversion from ePub to mobi reads href="images/464.png".
I'd like to know if this syntax is allowed in the mobi specification or if it would at least pass validation.

You don't include images in the manifest of a Mobi file - if you do, you'll end up with them in the book twice.

You can certainly use relative image paths in the HTML source for the book - Mobi Creator (or whatever tool you're using) will pick the image up and do the right thing with it.

Being a proprietary format, there is no 100% agreed upon public "specs" nor a universal "validation" program for MOBI. If the code produces the results you want across a variety of devices/programs... then it's valid mobipocket file.

in the <guide> section of an epub destined for conversion to mobi via kindlegen have always worked for me. I have never tried such references in other than type="cover" however.
