Loose stylus

I don't know if anyone has ever encountered this problem but despite only having used the stylus twice in the 8 months that I've owned the 650, the stylus has become lose and if I turn the unit upside down it will simply fall out. Can anyone think of a reason for this? I'm not sure what is holding the stylus in place in the first place. Friction? Magnetism? I tried placing it against a fridge magnet but the stylus wouldn't stick to it at all! Is there anyway I can fix this problem? Like I said I never use the stylus but I would prefer not losing it somewhere.

It's just a friction fit. Are you sure that it's the right stylus? You couldn't have mixed it up with a smaller one?

Nope-I only have one reader. That's really weird that it's come lose. I see that there's a small screw which is covered by the top of the stylus when it is in place. I wonder if I tried giving that a little tightening if it would have any effect.

If that does not work, put a tiny bead of clear epoxy down in the hole and let it dry. It should dry flexible enough to mash down and secure your stylus yet not stress or break it when you pull it out.

It is to the extent required by the task at hand. I was in QC for a major fishing rod manufacturer back in the '90s, and I also used to do custome conversions of resin models.

What is called for here is a bead the size of a sesame seed.

You could make a tiny strip of adhesive backed velvet work temporarily, but it would come off after a while.

Mine does it too (which is why I ordered that new one from Chris... don't want to be without). I completely forgot to fit my mother's in there to see if it was my stylus or the hole... When we went on holiday, I simply left the stylus at home, too afraid I'd lose it somewhere...

Once I get that spare stylus, I'll let you know if one will stick...

Stick a drop of epoxy in your stylus hole and let us know how it works.

If you could make a bead stand up a bit on the side, and got just the right amount, it would work. But for the average person, they are either going to block the hole fully, or the epoxy will end up in the bottom and shorten the hole.

And the epoxy still doesn't flex, the stylus flexes past the bump, slightly bending it.

Hello Canuck,

Give this a try: Wrap a single layer of cellophane tape around your stylus below its plastic top. If the stylus is still loose, add another layer. Hope this works for you!

Just one more idea: Remove the stylus and you’ll see a small screw in the body of the reader. Undo it, and slightly raise the head of that screw --obviously, you’ll need a jeweller’s screwdriver to do that. The head of the screw should rub against the inside of the black plastic clip of the stylus, thus creating the “friction” to hold the stylus in place.

It depends on their profession and hobbies. Fishermen, women who do craftwork, and men who work with fiberglass or plastics.

I had this problem for several days until I thought of tightening the top and that did the trick! Just gave it a few turns. Hope it works for you too!
