Greetings from Germany

Greetings.

I'm a 29-year-old application developer/administrator from Germany. I've always been a "second-wave adopter" of new technology, but I'm way behind in mobile devices. Recently I started to overthink that, so I'm here to learn about ereaders since that is what I'm interested in.

(I still have no serious use-case for smartphones or Tablet PC's - Tablet PC's cost as much as Notebooks but cannot do the same and smartphones...in my opinion they're just too small to be really useful for video, audio and surfing)

Good to have your company, Torwan. Must admit, I too see tablets as something of a jack-of-all-trades and master of none. A dedicated, sole-function e-reading device makes more sense to me (I already have a PC, laptop and wee netbook to see to everything else. I want no distractions when I can snatch time for recreational reading and I like the ease on the eye provided by e-ink rather than a backlit screen. Happy hunting for the very device for you. PS to the above: This is a personal opinion and not in any way meant to disparage the use of tablets. I've been housebound for the past ten years or so, but if I was still jetting around the world on an almost daily basis, a multi-function tablet may well be my choice, too. No offence taken by iPad- and Galaxy-using MR friends, I hope. Certainly none intended. Cheers. Neil

I see this similarly.

My boss is an iPad-fan and he borrowed it to all of us for a few days to try it out. I found it fun, but I didn't find anything where I said "yeah, I need to have this". For most things it was either "too much" (like reading, taking notes - for this it's just too expensive) or "not enough" (when it came to full computing you expect from a notebook; a similarly priced notebook could do so much more). This is why I'm more interested in a specialized product like an ereader.
