The Kobo WiFi is a decent basic reader, an improvement over the Original Kobo -- not least because it has a faster processor. The unit appears to be in production still.
Because the Kobo WiFi can stay synced with the "Kobo Cloud", it's available for me as backup (like if the Kobo Touch battery runs down), or so another member of the family can be reading from our library simultaneously. However, if the Kobo Touch is available, it's worth the extra $40. It has the Pearl eInk screen for one thing; and considerably more flexibility in fonts, page display, etc. |

If that extra $40 is an issue for you, then the Kobo Wi-Fi *is* probably the best you'll get for that price.

I'd take a look at Borders. They should have it for at least $70. Heck, I got my Kobo Touch for about 97 bucks.

Someone in anther thread this week said they would like to up date Kobo wifi software in near future when they can fit it into their busy schedule. Current software version 1.9 was released Mar 29 2011. In my experience it's great software without a lot of problems. Adding new features would be great if it doesn't slow it down and add bugs. It is lowest priced ereader in USA still being sold and manufactured. New software features make sense for Kobo wifi.
Easier to operate 5 way switch with improved rubber switch cover would be best improvement. Maybe more flexible silicon rubber cover would be all that's needed if it holds up to use and stays glued in place. I'm thinking how to get results without increasing price. |

Kobo Wifi is not a good buy. Save your money and get some other reader. Page turns are very slow compared to other readers, PDF support is weak and the developers seem to have forgotten all about the Wifi model. So if you buy it, it will end up the same as mine. Below a stack of real books and you'd end up getting an Android tablet instead.

Yes Kobo Touch is much better than old Kobo wifi with faster page turns and better PDF support. But it still has a few software problems.
Kobo wifi is still a good e-reader that I have used to read many books and still works fine without the many software problems experienced by Kobo touch users over past month. Kobo touch will get new features and software bugs will be fixed. Good software doesn't happen instantly and should only be released when ready. |

I got a KOBO wireless to day for only $39 at Borders. Liking it so far....not like my Kindle or Sony but for $39 is a good back up just in case.....or a great gift to someone this Christmas maybe. Can't find the 100 preloaded books though.

Try this.. Home | Use the blue arrow to select the BOOKS line at the top
Then use Menu | Display | and select to show "All Books". If not there, then you might need to reload the database. Checn and let us know if the "All Books" helps or not. |

I have both the Kobo wifi and the Kindle 3.
However, when Kindle enables library borrowing (soon I think), I will most likely use it exclusively. Only got the Kobo for that reason. All things being equal (library borrowing wise ![]() I have had the Kobo for about 5 months, and already the blue button is separating (noticably) from the unit. Also, as others have noted on here, the page turns are pretty darn slow! There is also some aggravation regarding powering down. Half the time it will not go all the way back to the off screen (goes to the screen saver), so then you have to wait for it to go back to the books, and try again. THAT is even more aggravating to me that the slow page turns. I read to the last minute before work, and shutting down promptly is driving me bananas!!! ![]() Oh, sometimes when I shut down, the screen shows half on and half off, part of the book I'm reading, a wide black line, etc. When you turn the Kindle off, it goes off! ![]() |
