Amazon to Pick Up the eDGe Torch?

Anybody else seen this rumor/report about the expected Amazon tablet? The description in the third paragraph sounds a lot like a certain device near and dear to our hearts...

That could be a good thing. No chance Amazon will go under and Amazon will keep it updated. I can't wait. :P

Obviously we'll have to wait and see if this actually comes to pass, but when it looked like enTourage was going under, it was always my hope that one of the "major players" might keep the concept alive. However, if it was a premeditated strategy, as opposed to a "rescue," then I would share Gunner's ire. The other thing I noticed upon re-reading the article is that there's no indication of it necessarily having pen input, one of the strongest features of the eDGe, in my opinion.

Well this is only everything I've ever wanted. One thing I'm hoping though is that you will be able to read pdfs and other non-Amazon-specific files. I honestly do not know how kindles work either, so perhaps I do not have to be too scared. What's the word, how are Amazon products with other files?

Kindle's can read Amazon's own format and Mobi files which a lot of ebook stores offer. You can use Kindles built in browser to go to a site and download your book. The browser is crude though, it is eink so not that pleasant to use. I rather just hook it up to usb and drop the files on the kindle.

You can also use Caliber to format your epubs or what have you to a format kindle can read.

There is a method of converting amazon ebooks to other formats; However, discussion of the actual method can not happen here. Suffice to say, it is easy and in the end very rewarding!

This will end up being the #1 device I get next once my EE dies, of course that is if it ends up living up to its hype. In addition, without the pen-able capabilities I would still buy it, but I would miss the note taking ease that it provided. If it is not there, that may be the reason they could lower the price. I'm sure partnering with adobe was not the cheapest venture.

Calibre will convert most non DRM files to the Amazon format - for anything else you should read Apprentice Alf's Blog.

Sounds to me more like it will be a single screen, probably with a clear e-ink layer over an underlying LCD. Still sounds nifty.

yup, I interpreted it similarly too...one of those Pixel Qi or Mirasol type of technologies...

funnily before I got my PE, I had my eyes set on them...so will be a good one to look forward to...

The new device will be have "glass-on-glass dual screen technology" and it was also reported to have e-ink technology as well as a touch screen android tablet. From these statements it seems that it will be just like an Entourage edge, or as others have speculated, one screen may be similar to the Pixel Qi which isn't all that bad either as it would perform similar to the edge and the certain other dual screened tablets on the market.
