I just recently purchased the pocket edge. I have been trying to update it to 2.2. I have tried downloading the update.zip from this forum and using the update app on the pocket edge. None were successful. Is there anything I am doing wrong? Any suggestions?

make sure the file name is "update.zip and not "update.zip.zip"
If windows is set to "hide known file associations" then the file you download will look like "update" without the .zip on the end however the file is actually "update.zip" and windows is simply hiding the ".zip" part of it. If you don't see the .zip on the end and you manually add it then it becomes "update.zip.zip" which the PE doesn't like. |

alright, i have tried renaming the file (it was called update.zip.9) and even when i held down the menu and rotate, or power and rotate buttons the PE still didn't update and booted normally. I have always put the file in the root. As for ivanjt's link, the download link there is dead ( i got the same file from someone else) and following the 10th post's instructions the pe booted up normally. Though thank you all for taking the time to post

Make sure the file is renamed to update.zip and copy it to a USB thumb drive. Make sure it is not in a folder.. just on the main drive.
with it powered off you have to hold down the menu and rotate buttons with one hand and turning it on with the other. CONTINUE TO HOLD DOWN the menu and rotate buttons for about 10-15 seconds until you see the screen flash. Wait about 5-10 minutes until the update is complete. |

yes, I held the buttons for about 20 seconds, and I meant that it booted the regular home screen and did not update. I have a PC, and I said that I had successfully renamed it to simply update.zip, and the PE still didn't seem to recognize it, even holding all the button combinations for 20 seconds.

I am having the exact same problem. I have done the whole process multiple times and the system simply goes through its normal initializing stuff and then comes on regular. It never goes into update. I have tried it from a flash drive and I have put the file on the storage card. We have to be missing something here.

The only way I got my pocket edge to update was using this link on the forums here
http://dustyfeet.com/edge/p-update.zip.ermine-0.9.zip The one on the Entourage site did not work (I tried it many,many times on mine) I had to format the USB to FAT (not FAT32) and be shure to uncheck quick format. Now, rename the file "update" Next uncheck the hide file extensions button (I found out how with an online search for my windows version), then transfer the file now titled update.zip to the USB. Follow these instructions from the entourage web site. 4. Verify your edge/pocket is OFF. 5. Insert the USB stick into a USB port on the device. 6. While holding down the MENU and ROTATE buttons on the LCD side of the device, press the power key. 7. Continue to hold the MENU and ROTATE keys down for 10 seconds. 8. After 1-2 minutes you should see an "Updating software" splash screen. 13. After ~15 minutes the device will reboot and will be running the Ermine BETA build. I just bought a second one for my wife and it worked the first time this way ![]() Hope this helps!! |

If windows shows the file is update.zip then erase the .zip. Verify file size. I tried to update mine 10 times only to find out I hadn't downloaded the entire file. I don't know about everyone else, but USB didn't work for me. I didn't get it to update until I moved it to SD card slot.

The second big problem - after the .zip.zip - is that the downloaded file is corrupt. Since it is a normal zip file the easiest way if testing this is to open it on the computer. If it does not open and show a large number of zip files then it is corrupt and needs to be deleted and downloaded again. If you are downloading via a browser then clear the cache first otherwise the corrupt copy in the cache is very likely to be used again.

Alright, I have successfully updated my pocket edge! What I did was I reformatted my USB flash drive to FAT (not FAT32) and downloaded the link from Basserx's post. Thank you all very much for your help.

Hey, I'm so happy with the pocket edge update, that I'm considering buying the regular Edge for myself. (The PE was for my dad) Any opinions on it? Can the EE be upgraded as well? And if so, where would the update.zip be?
