My
I purchased it online when Target had the one day deal. I didn't want wi-fi and all the fancy stuff, just a basic e-reader and thought I had found it. Upon further research my public library uses overdrive and the libre pro is listed as uncompatible.
Link: http://www.overdrive.com/resources/d...ledevices.aspx Does this mean that my purchase is obselete unless I want to purchase books online? I'm hoping to use this with my son who has reading problems. As a way to enlarge text. Currently we read at night with the aid of a book light to cut out distractions and focus on the text. As a result I'll be needing books on a second and third grade level. Should I open the package, it comes preloaded with 100 books, but they are all upper level books? Thanks for anyones help, I'm so glad I found this site! |

Well - depending on how tech savvy you are, you may have the option to download any number of free ebooks and load them onto your reader. It seems to support a wide variety of formats, so that is a plus. However, if library access is what you wanted most, then I'd say take it back

Justpin is correct, the usability of your new acquisition depends on how tech savy you are. I had a Libra Pro at one put, got smashed in a coat pocket, so I am familiar with the reader. What you would need to do is to download and install Calibre and appretice alf's add ons. What you would do is to go to overdrive, download the books and use Calibre to convert them to epub and then palce it on the reader. The Libra Pro is tied to Borders and Kobo Books so it would also depend on what those two book stores could provide.

I thought that the Libra Pro did support ADE, so overdrive's library offerings should be
readable on the Libra Pro, once you have jumped through Adobe's hoops. There are many free children's ebooks. The Ectaco jetBook is the same hardware. http://www.jetbook.net/ebooks.php Also; try googling "easy to read children's ebooks" without the quotes. Luck; Ken |

It's overdrive website that says that the Libre Pro is not compatable. Could the overdrive website be incorrect? I'm in TN and our state has some type of sharing program amoung libraries.
Here's the link to overdrive that I'm referring to: http://www.overdrive.com/resources/d...ledevices.aspx Thanks. Last edited by arcanabtn; 08-02-2011 at 05:18 PM. Reason: added link |

I do not own a Libra Pro, I do own the Ectaco jetBook Lite and have paid some attention
to the postings here. The Libra Pro had ADE support before the Jetbooks, according to the posts, and was able to read Overdrive epub library ebooks at that time. Luck; Ken |

I own a Libre Pro. Libre Pro does support ADE. I borrow books from the Library all the time. If you need help getting Library books onto the Libre Pro those of us on this forum will be glad to help you

Check out this thread; scroll down and you'll find some info about the Aluratek Libre Pro and Overdrive. Seems that they are compatible with the proper firmware.

Yes to what Gardenman says. I d/l from Overdrive all the time and the Libre Pro works exactly the same as the nook for borrowed books with one difference - not all of the library books expire on the Libre Pro. Maybe that's why Overdrive states it's not supported?

Ditto the other Libre Pro owners - it works fine with Overdrive. Mine worked perfectly with library books right out of the box with 0.15 firmware.

I find that even though my Library claims to use Overdrive and I had to install it most of the ebooks I get are ADE ePub/PDF and download and open fine.
I have only had to use the OD console for access to audio books. I have an Aluratek Libre Pro as well as a jetBook (not the JBL). John |

FYI, it looks like this pdf cheat sheet was updated December 2010 - 'Aluratek Libre' is now listed as a supported device. I'd guess some libraries have an older version of this, which causes confusion?
