Kindle 1 and 2

Any one here reading on a Kindle 1 or a Kindle 2, why have you chosen not to buy the newer Kindle 3?

Because my K1(s) work just fine. Why buy a newer version if the one you have does everything you need?

The main thing I was looking for is more portability. My kindle 2 is fine for reading at home. To get more portability, I ended up getting a Pocketbook 360.

that was my only real reason (...and money doesn't grow on trees

) for putting off getting a k3 for so long. but when my k2's 5 way split down the middle, i panicked and ordered a k3 wifi. after i got the k3 i called kcs and even though the k2 was over 2 years old, they sent me out a replacement and emailed me a free prepaid mailing label to send back the old k2. my wife now has the new k2.

No, you're mistaken.....My K2 is the best, yours is merely second best. (but still better than a K3!)

I, too, like the full keyboard on my Kindle 2. And I like the more solid construction -- at least it seems more solid to me. I even bought a reconditioned 2nd K2. Also, because Amazon is not updating the software, all of my hacks are likely to keep working. My K2 is jailbroken, font hacked, screen-saver hacked, and has launchpad installed to start Duokan Light quickly. I like the free 3G and don't feel tempted by Wifi.

In short, it does everything I want it to do. The only thing that it doesn't have is the better display the K3 has. Like a slant-6, push-button shifting Pymouth Valient, it is not the sexiest beast, but I'll drive it into the ground.

There's actually two K3's in my home. So I've had ample opportunity to figure out that I'm not really looking forward to the day that I have to upgrade.

Oh, and that's OK GoSharks... I'm cool with having the second-best K2 in the world.
