Just copied this from my old thread ("Replaced my 500 with the 505")... Given the interest on refresh rates, I thought it relavent enought to warrant it's own space, without being buried under a mass of messaging

This is a small video showing side by side page turning comparison.
Both books are turning Orwell's 1984 from the Connect Store.

However, the 505, has 110 books in internal memory, and the 500 has only 1.

Neither readers have memory cards inserted.

As you can see both readers get 'stuck' at times. I guess they are not used to being page-turned so frequently... however the 500 gets stuck more often. Don't get too excited... I did not probably do enough page turns to get a statistically relavavent sample. (Nor will I, before you ask!)

BTW sold the 500 reader on Amazon Marketplace... only took a few hours to go, so any buyers guilt has been extinguished!

Conclusion on my purchase?

I really like the 505. The Screen is superb, the Buttons are in the right place (apart from the damn power button!) and whatever anyone else says, the cover and thinner design are lovely.

Thanks for allowing me to contribute to your Forum... But now it is time to read a book.

After having a day to play, I have come to the conclusion that I was harsh on the refresh rate in one important aspect.

When both readers are compared side by side as in my video, there is little difference between the two devices, (Most others agree.)

But I noticed with the 500, that when I put in a memory card with a few books loaded, even if I was reading a book on the main memory, the pageturning and bookmarking became very, very much slower.

In my 505, I have a doxen books and 70 MP3 tracks on the same Sony 2GB memory card, and there is no noticible difference in refresh rate when I have the card inplace or removed.

This to me is huge. I had given up keeping a card permanently in the 500, putting one in when I wanted to listen to music while I read.

Which device are you refering to, the 500 or 505, and what conditions lead up to the crash? I'm also curious what you mean by crash, does the system shut down or lock up? Just curious.

I have had no experience of either device crashing.
What I noticed with the 500, was when I had a memory card inserted, the whole machine slowed down in normal use... ie over three seconds to bookmark a page instead of around one. If I took the card out of the 500, it behaved normally again.

The 505 does not show any slowing down during normal use when a memory card is inserted.
