Touch I wanted to love the white/lilac...

I have bought two Kobo Touch. One to keep, one to sell (there is a demand over here in Sweden). Planned on keeping the white/lilac, but now that I have the black to compare with ther reading experience is actually better with the black.

Darn!! I don't want a boring black device... But the reading experience has to come first, or...?

The black is a really nice satin finish black though. Not cheap plastic looking.

Oh well, I guess the white/lilac will be the one going to someone else, but I'll wait a couple of weeks before listing it.

Skin it.

Or keep lighter one, but add a skin to it. In addition to personalizing the reader, that means you can make it any color you want. One of the first things I did after getting my very shiny silver/aluminum colored PRS-950 was to buy a matte black-ish skin for it. It drastically improved the reading experiences and the reader looks much better now.

How is the reading experience better? The screens are exactly the same regardless of the color of the device, unless your white/lilac Kobo has a defective screen.

Asawi, I agree: get skins!

Gelaskin even makes a matte black skin, if you'd like to go that route: black front, lilac back.

(I also have both the black and the lilac, and wanted to love the lilac - but feel that the white is "too bright" for me. But I will skin it).

I think it's an optical illusion that makes it better with a dark edge around the screen. I noticed the same when comparing a silver Sony to my hot pink. The hot pink is not only prettier, but also gives the illusion of more contrast. The classic Nook's bezel is white as well, but has a thin black edge around the screen, and I think that is what makes it so pleasing for the eye to read.

Our local store has both white and black models that you can place touching side by side with the same contents on the screen. The screen background definitely looks darker on the white model. When Decalgirl adds the Touch I'll get something from there. A couple there I really like. Bundlemonster has few as well, but it has been written here that they probably won't add the Touch.

In my case, it was simply a matter of the bright silver bezel gleaming brightly and reflecting any light around it into my eyes, which made it hard to see the white screen. Not to mention, it actually hurt my eyes a bit.

This skin from Decalgirl removed that issue, and now I can read in the sun again.

Wow, I thought I wanted the silver one, but now this thread has made me indecisive between the silver and the black! A black device makes me think it came from the 90's. But it never occurred to me that you can skin these things! Quite an interesting idea, and probably something I will do.

I've been in touch with Decalgirl (well, customer service/questions), and twice I asked if there are plans to do skins for the Touch. They said they were planning to add some by the end of July.

It's very close to the end of July!

Gelaskins has skins for the Touch, as does Invisible Defenders.

Many people prefer the black bezel against the e-ink screen rather than white. Myself included.

I thought I would want the silver, but yesterday I went out to get the black. I'm glad I did, as I noticed the non-black ones have the Kobo logo in colour, and (nothing against the logo itself) I think the "monochrome" look of the logo looks better on the device.
