Wikipedia is very big. As it is mentioned abstracts alone would take 3 GB which all that Kindle can currently handle. Filtering out what you would like too read would be impossible task. I would better suggest to write a Kindle app that can browse Wikipedia online but with better navigation and formatting than the current Kindle browser.

It's a cool concept, but that's a lot of space to use up.

But it's not.. I wrote that in the article. Because wikipedia has relations pages -> subcategories -> categories

You can filter out just the topics you are interested in. The filtering process is not perfect, but it gets the job done.

I'm not sure I see the point of this: the ability to look up a topic in Wikipedia is a standard feature of the Kindle.

That's what I refer as impossible. Maybe for some people but I use Wikipedia daily for work and fun from very diverse topics. I want everything.

But it could be done for some other specialized wikis or maybe indeed for certain topics extracted from Wikipedia.

Kindle experimental browser is slow and not very usable. I would prefer it more like a book format. There could be a special app for this. However, it would be available only for jailbreak Kindles as Amazon probably will not allow an official app that can use large amounts of data even with WiFi devices.

I'm sorry to hear that. I wanted everything from wikipedia as well (even Gagas and Beibers). But I figured if I have Physics, Biology, Chemistry, Computer science and Philosophy each into it's own dictionary which I can load on demand that's still better than nothing.

I found it useful to search the mobi dictionaries and get an idea from the abstract what some term means. Especially when you don't have the wifi. Others may not find it very useful, but then again this is what open source is all about.

My article explains how you can create a pretty good dictionary (from Physics related articles) by exploiting the connections between categories and articles.

I would love a Wikipedia app for Kindle! That would make kindle more awesome! But to my knowledge there isn't such an app.

Because some people cannot get access to the 3G/wifi easily.
