Best practice for updating Calibre?

I currently have version 0.7.42 and want to update to 0.8.23 to support hubby's Sony T-1.

Would it be best to uninstall the older version or just install the much newer version right over it?

Figured I should ask, since it's been so long since I've updated the program and there are probably a lot of new features added.

Generally, I just over-install, but with as old of a version as you have I'd probably uninstall and reinstall with latest version. I'm sure smarter minds will add their comments.

Yeah, the online manual said over-install was fine, but as you say, big jump in version for me, so I thought I'd ask here before plunging ahead.

I'm on dial-up, so downloading Calibre takes awhile, hence me not updating all that often if what I have is working well.

An 'Over install' on that version OK.
Just be running on the 'Mains' as part of the install will reconfigure the DB structure (automatically).

Um, pardon, but what is "running on the 'Mains'? And how do I do it?

Mains is European for plugged in to the wall (not running on batteries)

Hey, learned something new there! I'd never have guessed that one, since my computer is a desktop and doesn't work at all if it is not plugged into the wall, LOL!

Thanks for the clarification, I'll go ahead with the update at some point when I am not bone tired. Dug up a huge, long neglected iris bed, as well as a rose today. Had to go down a couple feet to get all the rose roots, I'm done for.

I think the next Calibre upgrade will have a "tweak" which allows for auto-uploading of iris beds; not roses though, you need specially-coloured glasses for those.

I have to keep whacking the Iris and say "Not onto the Lawn"

The roses get to do what they want... Some have long thorns

Yep, those sound like my Irises ... into the lawn in spades. I guess they'd been neglected for years before we bought the place and I don't really think that was a good spot to plant them anyway. They weren't doing well.
