Push Gmail on Kindle

I had an idea for a way to push my new emails (from gmail) to my Kindle, but I'm not sure how to implement it.

Idea: Auto-forward your new emails as a .txt attachment to your @kindle.com (or free.kindle.com) address, and then your new emails will be pushed to your Kindle.

Anyone figured out a better way to access their gmail than the browser?

I access Gmail through skweezer.com. It uses the browser but it is pretty fast.

Dangerous?

Isn't that dangerous to be accessing your Gmail through a 3rd party?

A Kindle is an e-reader, not a netbook or tablet. Sounds like you might be better off with an Android tablet or an iPad-or wait a few months and pick up an Amazon tablet.

Maybe you could forward your mails to your kindle free address I dunno if this works but you can still try. On gmail you can create "forward and archive" filters.

I tried just a straight forwarding of email once, and got this message:

"Your email to Kindle(s) did not include any attachments"

It did not work.

Now maybe if you can send your email via a file somehow, then maybe it would work.

Gmail can be accessed as an RSS feed, so something like Calibre can be set to automatically download and forward to it your kindle as a periodical.
I haven't tried it personally, as I've be content to bookmark the mobile view and use the browser.

ApK - The RSS is a great idea, thanks! Going to try that.

Markdek - The email needs to be forwarded as an attachment in order for Kindle to automatically convert it to a Kindle file. That's the point where I can't figure out how to implement my plan - how to get my email auto-forwarded as an attachment.

I'm not sure on gmail and a web interface, but I know that when using Outlook you can automatically forward email as an attachment through its various rules. I would imagine that other 3rd party email applications can do it as well, so you might look into that (if you don't have Outlook, Thuderbird comes to mind as a free email app.).

I've had no success using Calibre to run unattended and regulary push RSS feeds to my Kindle. Any time it hits a problem (connection down, email failure) it pops up a notification dialog and does nothing further until you come to your PC and click Ok. Calibre just isn't ready for automated, unattended tasks. I wish it were.

Couldn't hurt to mention that in the Calibre forum here. Perhaps there is some sort of workaround for more unattended operation, or perhaps one of the devs will feel like putting it on their todo lists.

Calibre issues aside, getting your Gmail to be fetched as an RSS feed requires authentication, which must be coded with Calibre's advanced mode - not easy for non-programmers such as myself.

Another option that I found is to use FreeMyFeed, a free service that takes your Gmail authentication information+Gmail RSS feed, and produces an RSS feed from it which does not require authentication to access. It would probably be wise to forward your Gmail messages to a 2nd account and use that RSS feed in order to prevent 3rd party access to your login info.

Haven't tested this with a Kindle, as mine is yet to arrive..

This has some promise to it. When I get home, I may have to play with this a little bit...

I just realized that this technique will only provide you with your email at predetermined intervals (set up on calibre) and not when a new email arrives, which is what I was initially seeking.

If anyone can get the push email working, let me know!
