"Has Summary" comes from where?
Where is Calibre getting the "Has Summary" data and how can I insert it for my <edit>self published</edit> book? I've placed a summary description with both Bowker and Amazon, but Calibre isn't pulling it so it would seem I've failed to put the information somewhere.

I'm sorry, I'm not being clear. I'm an indie author. I want to know where Calibre retrieves the data so I can go out to the internet and PUT it there.

Are you using the most recent version of calibre? A change was made in the last version to adjust to changes made on Amazon product pages. In the previous few versions, pulling the book summaries was very iffy, but in the latest version it's working almost 100%. |

Spot on, thank you. An update did the trick. Thanks!
![]() ETA: But how does yours say B&N and the rest? My metadata sources are much fewer. ![]() Last edited by anamardoll; 02-21-2012 at 05:25 PM. |

Only a short remark, critic to the commercial area or even a proposal for this discussion:
The best way to have good metadata (book description, author, ISBN, publishing date, genre, etc.) is to put them in the metadata section of your eBook. As reader I am very often really disappointed about the scrappy summaries and metadata I receive from amazon and others sources. And I am often wondering about why publisher are not using or still ignoring the metadata section in an eBook. I would be more than happy to get rid of these very often second-hand scrap and get the information directly first-hand from the eBook metadata. It would be really nice to see that Indi authors are able to support correct metadata in their eBooks instead of what we have to accept from the commercial area. |
