That was a fun review, and I agree with everything said, but they left out the things that annoy me about my new Nook.

1. Nook only allows user content on a small portion of its onboard storage. Nook store purchases are kept on a hidden partition, and there's no way to monitor how much space is free (on the Nook-only partition) until you run out. Also, if Nook accidentally downloads multimedia books from your Library (like those intended for Nook App or Nook Color) they are next to impossible to remove from the device without deleting them from your B&N library. Since Nook knows that they aren't readable, they get stuck in an "Everything Else" section of the library, and file info doesn't show the archive button, and since they aren't books (to the Nook), the status doesn't sync when archived online. And since they're in a hidden partition, you can't simply delete them over USB.

2. Nook doesn't allow you to delete books. You can archive Nook store items, but side-loaded content (like library loans) can only be removed over USB.

3. Nook disables all social features for side-loaded books. Kindle lets you share annotations; it labels them as a "Personal Document" instead of showing the title & author, but the highlighted text or note is sharable.

4a. Nook's shelves are a pain. To add books to a shelf, you must scroll through every book alphabetically, there's no way to sort (if a static list was the only way they could figure out how to implement it, wouldn't newest first or most recently accessed be more sensible?). And if your books are on the SD card, they'll be disappearing from your shelves every time Nook spontaneously dismounts the card (a bug they can't fix soon enough). Kindle's collections, on the other hand, are much easier to deal with, and you can add/delete books from one collection at a time, or you can change a single book's collection(s) from the book's properties.
4b. On a related note, that somewhat redeems Nook: It does allow navigation of user storage areas, so if you load all of your books over USB and put them into folders, you get a simple alternative to shelves, but it's not sortable (it's displayed by file name), and there's no cover art.

5. Nook's dictionary feature is less robust than Kindle's. You can't look up a word independently, and you can't look up a word in a PDF e-book (like most back-list fiction borrowed from the library).

6a. Nook can only display the top level of the table of contents. So, if you book has a Part I with sub chapters, you won't be able to access the chapters from the TOC.

6b. But, at least Nook does provide TOC for PDF files, something Amazon annoyingly fails to incorporate into Kindle's PDF feature set.

I don't want to seem like I dislike my Nook. I was completely enamored with it when I first got it, and even if the shine has worn off a bit, it's still super speedy on page turns and I've found that some files that are too huge for Kindle (converted to .mobi) and Sony to manage actually open quickly and are navigable on Nook. I still turn to my Sonys for PDFs, and I turn to my Kindle for reading in wet conditions (IR touch screens are unresponsive when inside a dry bag, but Kindle's design works perfectly well).
