The news feeds - are they the real newspaper?

Hi
I just found that I can download a news feed from all major newspapers. Do you know whether this is the real newspaper (as that's what it looks like) or is it just a compilation of feeds from the newspaper websites.

I was googling to see if there was a website to download the daily newspapers for free, the research led me to this.

So what do you think, are they real newspapers?

Thanks

In most cases it is a compilation.
See the recipe forum...

Are you talking about the Fetch News feature in calibre? Assuming you are, the recipes created to download various newspapers download actual articles from the specified news source. These are usually publicly available articles but some recipes are created to download articles from sites that require you to enter your username and password.

These allow you to download your news source of choice and read the articles on your ereader.

It can be content from the RSS feed but it doesn't have to be. It all depends on what the site makes available.

by the way (slightly of topic) by reading such "feeds" from a newspaper website; would one miss anything important compared to reading the traditional paper?

so is there a BIG difference between the newpaper articles and its articles on the web?

Depending on the paper.
Some newspapers publish all their article online.
Some only the intro
Some just publish main-articles.

If you subscribe on several feeds, you're likely to be up to date as can be, but it's depending on your needs. If you want to be sure you have all the news, look for a paper that publishes everything online, or get an E-subscription for a news-paper.

That's a good idea, I only want to stay up do date with that's going on, as for some reason I never seem to "want" to whatch the news, no idea why; so I going to try this and see how it goes, thanks a lot

You are referring to what calibre calls "recipes." Recipes create ebooks from free content supplied by the source newspaper. An author who uses Calibre has written the recipe, and he/she selected the content included in the ebook. The author may be anyone from Kovid to a volunteer who has written only that one recipe.

You are free to modify the recipe to change the content. Sometimes the author has selected more than you want, and you should remove the content you don't want. Sometimes the recipe has the ability to download much more than anyone could read, so the author has written it to be able to retrieve it all, but limited it to a small sample subset of the content. The user needs to modify it to add more content.

In a nutshell, you are limited to the free content that the newspaper makes available and the subset of that content that the author thought was interesting enough to include. I have always been amazed at how much free content newspapers provide. Sometimes the free content is better than their paid content.

Are they "real?" Answer: Emphatically, yes!

There are currently more than 900 built in recipes. Check out the recipe forum for more and for info on how to create your own or modify the built in versions.
