Jaycee Dugard's Memoir Top-Seller on Amazon
A tell-all memoir from kidnap victim Jaycee Dugard is currently the number one bestseller on Amazon in its first day of release. A Stolen Life recounts Jaycee Dugard's 18 year ordeal, from the time she was captured by paroled sex-offender Phillip Garrido, until her rescue in 2009.
Jaycee Lee Dugard was an 11 year old schoolgirl in 1991, residing in South Lake Tahoe, California when she was shot with a stun gun while on her way to school. The man who captured her, Phillip Garrido, was on parole for a rape which took place in 1976. Shortly after being captured, Garrido begins sexually abusing the young girl, and her horrifying ordeal begins in earnest. She must endure repeated rape at the hands of a 42-year old man, old enough to be her father. Garrido constructed an elaborate network of tents and shacks in the backyard of his home in Antioch, California, which served as a place to hide the young girl he had captured. Garrido and his wife Nancy, who aided in Jaycee's abduction, held the scared young girl captive in their backyard prison, periodically emerging to feed her and bring her basic amenities. http://technorati.com/women/article/...top-seller-on/ |

The book is completely out at all the warehouses, local and national. We tried to get some and everything's wiped out.

I have seen a few reviews at Amazon that suggest people are buying the book because they want to support her (financially) and not because they care overly much about the content of the book itself.

I wish I could believe that, but I don't. It is the voyeurism that is ruling I fear.

According to the TV program with Diane Sawyer, she is telling her story as part of her therapy--staring down the past, I think she calls it. I'm sure she had assistance picking out a non-exploitative publishing deal, so I would not feel bad either, should I decide to read it.
