Generating author-sort tags ?

I have a number of books which came with both author and author-sort tags set to the same, in the form "first-name last-name".
Is there a simple way to generate in bulk new author-sort tags in the form "last-name, first-name" ?

Highlight all of the books you wish to change, open the metadata edit window, check the Automatically set author sort box and click OK.

Thanks; had not dared try that, for fear it would blank all my "author" and "author-sort" fields ;-3(
