Smile Sony v Kindle

Once again, The Sony 650 beats the Kindle in the latest "Which" magazine tests here in UK in this month's subscriber's magazine.
[ "Which", for those new to it, is a pioneering consumer rights/problems/reports/ do/don't buy organisation, established for many years, that has led the field in achievements and innovation in consumer protection and reporting. It has also saved me a packet over the years ]

Final scores were very close, 76% to 73%, but the Sony still comes out ahead of the 3G and wi-fi Amazon offering.

I am trying to post a link, but at the moment this latest one doesn't seem to be online - might be me, but I've contacted Which and am waiting for a reply.
[ I don't know if I'll have problems as it would be linking to a subscription service, but I spose I can copy/paste if all else fails............. ]

I'm only surprised that the scores are so close. I have both a Sony 650 and a Kindle 3, and very rarely bother with the Kindle.

Personally, I'd agree - but I was trying to lull fears of those who might suspect me of being non-neutral, thereby favouring one over the other, just because I have Sony equipment......

Perish the thought.................

I have both a Sony and a Kindle. Each has its strengths and weaknesses. To assess them as pretty much equal is, I think, fair, although I find myself using my Kindle a lot more, primarily because I prefer its user interface.

I have only Kindle because I couldn't find a shop in London selling Sony e-readers when I was there more than a year ago. In a hindsight it was not a big loss as Kindle turned out better suited for my needs. Sony has limited dictionary support and no way to add user generated dictionaries as the specification is not disclosed. Whereas Kindle supports mobipocket dictionaries (although with limitations for Asian languages). The mobipocket dictionary format is open and there are more commercial dictionaries available for sale.

I'm certainly Ok with it, but my Kindle seems to be taking it all rather badly.

Excuse me but my uncle happens to be Jebediah Kindle, inventor of the Kindle, and I find this personally offensive.

Is it too late for the festivities? I'm waiting for the die-hards to start slinging mud.

C'mon. It's Friday. We could use some entertainment to kick the weekend off.

Two benefits of Kindle (Amazon) that I like (and don't see anyone else offering) are the technical books in ebook format and the 'I want this in Kindle format' for pbooks without an ebook version.

Give Bezos a pat on the back for those.

The superb Amazon bookstore is certainly the single biggest benefit of the Kindle. Although most of the books are available elsewhere, having a "one stop shop" for all one's books is a significant advantage.
